CANYON, Texas – The #5 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M continue Lone Star Conference action this weekend as they open up their home schedule at Schaeffer Park against #14 Oklahoma Christian and Cameron. Friday's doubleheader with the Eagles begins at 4:00 p.m. followed by a pair of Sunday contests against the Aggies with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m. in Canyon.

THIS IS LADY BUFF SOFTBALL
West Texas A&M Softball is in their 21st season of NCAA competition as the Lady Buffs are a staggering 793-327 (.708) since reviving the program prior to the 2006 campaign. WT has won three South Central Regional Championships (2014, 2016, 2021) along with a pair of NCAA Division II National Championships in 2014 and 2021.

2025 REWIND
The Lady Buffs capped off 2025 with a 56-8 overall record and 40-4 Lone Star Conference record. WT opened the campaign ranked 13th before quickly entering the top 10 of the NFCA poll. The Lady Buffs spent 10 weeks in the top five including three weeks at No. 1. WT earned a share of the Lone Star Conference regular season title for the second consecutive season.

WT HEAD COACH MICHAEL MOOK
In just six seasons,
Michael Mook has led West Texas A&M to a 254-63 (.801) mark while claiming the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championship. Mook is a two-time Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year (2024, 2025) who has led the Lady Buffs to four NCAA Postseason appearances (2021, 2023, 2024, 2025). Mook recently agreed to a three-year contract extension to keep him the WT dugout until atleast the Summer of 2028. A new era of Lady Buff softball began on June 20, 2019, as Mook was hired as the third head coach in program history.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Oklahoma Christian enters the week with an overall record of 10-2 with a 2-0 start to Lone Star Conference play as they swept a doubleheader from Cameron last Friday in Edmond followed by a doubleader split with #13 Rogers State in Claremore on Tuesday afternoon.

Danae Lopez leads the way offensively as the sophomore infielder from Amarillo is hitting .389 on the season with three doubles to tie for the team lead with 11 RBI for a slugging percentage of .472 to go along with four walks and four strikeouts for an on-base clip of .439. OC is hitting .307 as a team with 26 doubles, five triples and five homers for 58 RBI while also going a perfect 11-of-11 on stolen bases.

Jill Dickson has been the ace of the pitching staff to start the season, going 5-1 with a 1.09 ERA as the senior from Edmond has allowed six runs (five earned) on 30 hits with seven walks and 35 strikeouts in her 32.0 innings of work for an opposing batting average of .238.

OC HEAD COACH SHALEE RODRIGUEZ
Shalee Rodriguez joined Oklahoma Christian's coaching staff as an assistant coach on July 13, 2018, after two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Southern Nazarene, and was named as the Eagles' third head coach on June 11, 2021. Rodriguez completed her fourth season at the helm of the OC program following the 2025 spring season.

THE SERIES
Friday afternoon will mark the 22nd and 23rd all-time meeting on the diamond between the Lady Buffs and Eagles in the series that dates back to 2014. The Eagles are 4-4 all-time at Schaeffer Park as they picked up a 9-8 extra-inning win over the Lady Buffs during their last trip to the Panhandle in the 2024 NCAA South Central Regional Tournament to end WT's season.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES
Cameron enters the weekend with an overall record of 6-5 with an 0-2 mark in Lone Star Conference action. The Aggies fell in a doubleheader last Friday at Oklahoma Christian (8-0 / 13-10). Cameron will face off with Eastern New Mexico on Friday afternoon in Portales.Â

Haley Gardella leads the way offensively for the Aggies as the sophomore designated player from Royse City, Texas is hitting .462 on the year with four doubles and six homeruns to drive in a team-best 21 RBI for a slugging percentage of 1.026 to go along with six walks and three strikeouts for an on-base percentage of .543.

Stormee Reed has made nine appearances with five starts in the circle for the Aggies as the senior right-hander from Shawnee, Oklahoma is 2-1 overall with a 5.06 ERA as she has allowed 28 runs (26 earned) on 42 hits with 24 walks and 34 strikeouts in her 36.0 frames for an opposing batting average of .292.

CU HEAD COACH BRYAN HOWARD
Bryan Howard is in his second season at the helm of the Cameron softball program. Howard led the Aggies to an overall record of 29-24 last season to advance to the opening round of the LSC Championships. Howard came to Lawton following one season as the head coach at Missouri S&T.Â

THE SERIES
Sunday afternoon features the 61st and 62nd meetings between the Lady Buffs and Aggies in a series that dates back to February of 2006. WT is 23-4 all-time in Canyon against Cameron with the Aggies dropping their last nine games at Schaeffer Park. The Lady Buffs carry a three-game win streak in the series into Sunday's doubleheader.
