Akintoye Breaks a Pair of School Records in Lubbock

ANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M Track & Field registered 14 NCAA provisional marks including a pair of school records during their final tune-up for the LSC Indoor Championships as the Buffs and Lady Buffs competed at the Jarvis Scott Open and the BU David Hemery Valentines Invitational.
 
WT returns to the track on February 27-28 at the 2026 Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
 
Jarvis Scott Open
James Dadzie began Friday's action in Lubbock with a time of 6.69 in the prelims of the men's 60m dash followed by a 6.62 in the semis to punch his ticket to the finals, the semifinal time of 6.62 tied for 8th on WT's Top-10 list.
 
Blessing Akintoye continued her impressive indoor campaign as the junior set a new school record in the women's 400m with a mark of 53.01 on her birthday to win the event. Akintoye would smash her second school record of the weekend on Saturday afternoon with a time of 23.70 in the 200m to finish 6th overall.
 
Deborah Acheampong tallied a personal best mark of 23.95 in the 200m to tie the 8th fastest time in program history, finishing 10th in the event. Oyeyoni Oyewale-Johnson tied the 10th best mark in WT history in the triple jump (15.31) on his opening attempt to finish 4th overall.
 
BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational
The Buffs started things off in Boston on Friday as Emil Meggle registered the 2nd fastest indoor 800m mark in school history (1:49.09) to finish 25th overall in the invitational section. The 5,000m field featured five Buffs led by Adrian Legarreta's 55th place finish (13:58.98) for the 8th best time in school history. Tobias Ritter finished 87th (14:07.88) followed by Branch Cox in 105th(14:14.25), Tommaso Toppi in 155th (14:36.18) and Fintan Kavanagh in 177th (14:53.61). 
 
Abigail Abugire picked up a 21st place finish in the 800m invitational section as the sophomore ran a time of 2:06.47 for the 2ndfastest time in school history. The 3,000m included a pair of Lady Buffs as Kalkidan Vincendeau finished 39th (9:23.54) followed by Sarah Koomson in 43rd (9:25.14) out of 207 runners in the field. Vincendeau's time was good enough for 6th on the all-time Lady Buff Top-10 followed by Koomson's mark in 7th.
 
The women's 5K closed out the meet in Boston as Naomi Addo finished 72nd overall with a time of 16:41.14 followed by Julie Lafare in 105th (16:59.62) and Lexi Maul in 141st (18:31.20).
