CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes suffered a walkoff loss on Saturday afternoon before responding with a big victory in the nightcap to split a Saturday Lone Star Conference doubleheader with the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds in Portales, New Mexico.

The Buffs and Greyhounds close out the series on Sunday with first pitch of the series finale set for 2:00 p.m. CT.

Game 2 – Eastern New Mexico 11, West Texas A&M 10
WT opened the game with a strong offensive performance, scoring five runs in the first inning.
Tristin Thomas and
Brock Bunker both reached base, leading to a two-RBI single by
Daniel Castellanos.
Jonluke Hobdy added to the lead with a two-RBI double down the left field line, and
Jake Alwine brought in another run with a groundout, giving the Buffs a 5-0 advantage after the first inning.

Eastern New Mexico responded in the bottom of the second inning with a five-run outburst of its own. After loading the bases, Jackson Meng's two-RBI single and Ryan Weaver's three-run homer tied the game at 5-5 by the end of the second inning.

In the third inning, the Buffs regained the lead with a sacrifice fly by
Will Franklin, bringing home Hobdy. This put West Texas A&M ahead 6-5 after three innings. Eastern New Mexico tied it up again in the fifth with a run-scoring single from Grant Gilooly, leveling the score at 6-6 heading into the sixth inning.

The seventh inning saw a pivotal momentum shift, as the Buffs capitalized on a throwing error and loaded the bases. Alwine delivered a crucial blow with a grand slam to deep right field, putting the Buffs up 10-6. However, Eastern New Mexico mounted a comeback in the bottom half, scoring five runs, highlighted by Weaver's walk-off two-run home run, resulting in an 11-10 victory for Eastern New Mexico.

Riley Kettner picked up the loss (0-1) for the Buffs, allowing two earned runs on two hits in his 0.2 frames of work.

Game 3 – West Texas A&M 17, Eastern New Mexico 6
The Buffs team took control in the second inning, scoring four runs, highlighted by
Jonluke Hobdy's RBI single that brought
Daniel Castellanos home, followed by
Jake Alwine's two-RBI single, which extended their lead.

In the third inning, the Buffs added another run as Hobdy scored on a failed pickoff attempt. Eastern New Mexico responded in the bottom half of the inning with six runs, including a three-RBI triple by Grant Gilooly, temporarily taking the lead at 6-5.

The fourth inning saw the Buffs tie the game as
Jacob Police doubled to bring
Brock Bunker home. The visitors then exploded for nine runs in the fifth inning. Alwine drove in another run with a single, and a series of errors and key hits, including a three-RBI double by Police, widened the gap at 15-6.

The Buffs added two more insurance runs in the seventh inning.
Tristan Menchaca grounded out but still managed to drive in a run, and Hobdy later scored on a passed ball. The defensive efforts from the Buffs kept Eastern New Mexico scoreless in the final four innings, sealing the win.

Bryan Raitz claimed the win (1-0) as he allowed one earned run on three hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in 5.0 innings of relief.
