CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes clinched their first Lone Star Conference series of the season on Sunday afternoon with a 9-5 victory over the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds in Portales, New Mexico.

The Hounds got on the board in the home half of the second inning on a Grant Gilooly RBI single thru the right side followed by a Jackson Meng groundout in the fourth to score Gabriel Watson for the 2-0 lead.

WT responded in the top of the fifth inning as an errant ENMU throw plated
Tristan Menchaca followed by base hits by
Jonluke Hobdy and
Daniel Castellanos for the 4-2 lead. The Buffs added to their lead in the seventh with a wild pitch to score
Jake Alwine followed by a
Luis Reyes three-run homer to left for the 8-2 advantage.

The Buffs added an insurance run in the top of the eighth on a
Jacob Police RBI single to center to score Picciano. Eastern New Mexico wouldn't go down without a fight as they pushed across one run in the eighth and two in the home half of the ninth before a groundout to Police at third ended the game, 9-5.

Shea Lake picked up the win (1-0) for the Buffs, allowing three earned runs on nine hits with one walk and a strikeout in his 5.0 innings of relief.

The Buffs return to Wilder Park next weekend as they host the Cameron Aggies in a four-game series starting on Friday afternoon in Canyon.
