Track & Field Competes in Lubbock and Boston This Weekend

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M Track & Field hits the road for their final competitions before the LSC Indoor Championships as they are set to compete in both the Jarvis Scott Open and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational.

WT ENTRIES IN BOSTON
West Texas A&M sends 12 student-athletes to Boston as the top distance runners in the nation compete in Beantown this weekend. Six Lady Buffs (Lafare, Maul, Abugire, Addo, Koomson, Vincendeau) and six Buffs (Meggle, Legarreta, Ritter, Kavanagh, Cox, Toppi) each look to punch their ticket to the NCAA Indoor National Championships.
 
A LOOK AT THE FIELD
WT will be the only Lone Star Conference school competing this weekend in Boston. The field features top talent from all levels inside of the BU Track & Tennis Center. 
 
LSC FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
West Texas A&M swept the weekly Lone Star Conference Field Athletes of the Week with Esther Conde-Turpin and Fran Bonifacic claiming the honors following stellar performances at the UNM Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque.
 
A LOOK AT THE FIELD
The Lone Star Conference will send four institutions to the Jarvis Scott Open with West Texas A&M, Eastern New Mexico, Lubbock Christian and Angelo State making the short trip to Lubbock. The meet will be loaded with the top student-athletes from across the country.
 
USTFCCCA DIVISION II NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Lady Buffs moved up a spot to 2nd in this week's installment of the USTFCCCA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Rankings released on Tuesday afternoon, the Buffaloes enter the weekend ranked 6th in the country.
 
WT DIRECTOR OF TRACK & FIELD MATT STEWART
Matt Stewart begins his 9th season as the Director of Track & Field/Cross Country and 16th season overall. 
 
During his time in Canyon, Stewart has overseen WT's sprints/hurdles/relays while coaching 192 All-Americans, 15 Individual Event NCAA Champions and 94 different individual/event Lone Star Conference Champions within his respective events.  Stewart has been named a nineteen-time USTFCCCA All-Region Coach of the Year and was the 2018 and 2022 National Coach of the Year. 
 
Since starting the program in 2009-10, WT has made the move from a start-up program to an annual contender in the LSC Title race and a staple in the NCAA National Championships as the Lady Buffs have claimed three NCAA Division II National Championships (Outdoor - 2017, Indoor – 2018, Outdoor-2022) and 31 LSC Championships as well as 20 NCAA Team Podium Finishes.
