Buffs Fall in a Rivalry Matchup with the #10 Greyhounds, 87-76

CANYON, Texas – Tuesday night featured a back-and-forth rivalry battle as the #10 Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds used a late scoring run to hand West Texas A&M an 87-76 Lone Star Conference defeat at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.

WT opened the first half with a defensive rebound by Jailyn Sledge, quickly converting it into a tip-in for the first points of the game. Zach Brown later connected on a three-pointer, assisted by Fontaine Williams, which helped the team maintain a narrow lead. Defensive pressure was evident with several steals, including a key one by Williams that set up a fast-break layup.

Despite strong defensive efforts, including six steals and two blocks, WT faced resistance as Eastern New Mexico capitalized on free throws and fast-break opportunities to keep the game tightly contested. As the half progressed, Brock Mishak's three-pointer put the Buffs ahead briefly, but a late jumper by the Greyhounds edged them ahead 34-33.

WT began the second half with an early defensive stand, as James Parlow Jr. secured a steal and completed a three-point play to extend the lead. The team capitalized on turnovers, with Brown and Brendan Ballard contributing defensively and offensively to maintain momentum. By the midpoint, the Buffs managed to sustain their lead, with Williams adding a crucial three-pointer to keep the home team ahead.

As the half progressed, ENMU responded with a series of scoring plays, narrowing the gap. Despite several turnovers, the Buffs maintained their resilience, with Mishak and Parlow Jr. contributing crucial points. However, the Hounds took advantage of late opportunities, regaining control in the final minutes 87-76.

Mishak scored 22 points, including four 3-pointers, and added four rebounds. Williams contributed 16 points and recorded four assists while collecting two steals. Brown tallied 13 points, hitting both of his 3-point attempts, and grabbed six rebounds. Parlow Jr. added 11 points and dished out two assists.

The Buffs return to the court on Thursday night as they welcome the UT Dallas Comets to the First United Bank Center with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. in Canyon.
