CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M Track & Field continues their indoor season on Friday and Saturday as they travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico to take part in the UNM Team Open at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

FAMILIAR LOCATION
The Buffs and Lady Buffs will compete in Albuquerque the next two weekends as they prepare for the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 27-28 inside of the Albuquerque Convention Center. The facility has hosted 14 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships, nine USATF Indoor National Championships, and five NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships — the first in NCAA history hosted at altitude.

USTFCCCA NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Lady Buffs checked in at #5 in the first installment of the USTFCCCA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Rankings released on Tuesday afternoon, the Buffaloes enter the weekend ranked 11
th in the country.

A LOOK AT THE FIELD
The Lone Star Conference will send four teams to this weekend's meet in the Land of Enchantment as WT will be joined by Lubbock Christian, Eastern New Mexico and Angelo State. The meet features many Division I powers including New Mexico, Ohio State, Stanford, Northern Arizona, UTRGV, North Texas and Utah.

EARLY SEASON MOMENTUM
West Texas A&M has started the indoor campaign strong as the Buffs and Lady Buffs put together impressive performances at the Colorado Running Company Pre-Holiday Invite and the Corky Classic, highlighted by standout performances from athletes setting school records and posting top times in individual events.

WT DIRECTOR OF TRACK & FIELD MATT STEWART
Matt Stewart begins his 9th season as the Director of Track & Field/Cross Country and 16th season overall.Â
Â
During his time in Canyon, Stewart has overseen WT's sprints/hurdles/relays while coaching 192 All-Americans, 15 Individual Event NCAA Champions and 94 different individual/event Lone Star Conference Champions within his respective events.  Stewart has been named a nineteen-time USTFCCCA All-Region Coach of the Year and was the 2018 and 2022 National Coach of the Year.Â

Since starting the program in 2009-10, WT has made the move from a start-up program to an annual contender in the LSC Title race and a staple in the NCAA National Championships as the Lady Buffs have claimed three NCAA Division II National Championships (Outdoor - 2017, Indoor – 2018, Outdoor-2022) and 31 LSC Championships as well as 20 NCAA Team Podium Finishes.
