#8 West Texas A&M Finishes the BritKare Lady Buff Classic Unbeaten

CANYON, Texas – The #8 Lady Buffs finished the opening weekend unbeaten with wins over CSU Pueblo (25, 16, 25-22, 27-25) and Oklahoma Baptist (25-13, 21-25, 25-18, 25-13) to close out the 2025 BritKare Lady Buff Classic at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon. 
 
WT hits the road for the first time this season on Wednesday night as they take on the Grizzlies of Adams State at Plachy Hall in Alamosa, Colorado with first serve set for 7:00 p.m. CT.
 
The Lady Buffs will remain in Colorado to take part in the best Division II tournaments in the country as they travel to Denver, Colorado for the Colorado Premier Challenge. WT will face off with #18 Bentley and #16 Point Loma on Friday with bracket play starting on Saturday. WT looks to defend their crown as the 2024 Lady Buffs went a perfect 4-0 against ranked teams on the way to the program's fourth Premier title.
 
Match 1 – CSU Pueblo
Currie Marusak continued her big opening weekend in Saturday's contest with CSUP as the Amarillo native had 17 kills on 36 swings for an attack percentage of .333 to go along with two digs and a block. Emma Becker and Taytum Stow added 10 kills each, Bromli Watson dished out a match-high 37 assists with 13 digs for a double-double with Hannah Pemberton also tallying 13 digs in the back row.
 
The Lady Buffs hit .263 as a team with 45 kills on 118 swings with 14 attack errors to go along with three aces, 53 digs and eight blocks. CSU Pueblo registered 42 kills on 125 attempts with 20 errors for a team attack percentage of .176 with 37 assists, four aces, 50 digs and five blocks.
 
Caelyn Gunn led the way for the ThunderWolves with 15 kills on 46 swings to hit .239 with two assists and eight digs. Brooke Logue dished out a team-best 27 assists to go along with four blocks and three digs while Megan Mattingly led the way in the back row for CSUP with 17 digs in the loss.
 
Match 2 – Oklahoma Baptist
Becker paced the West Texas A&M offense as the senior from Liberty Hill had 22 kills on 41 swings and just four errors to hit .439 on the night with nine digs, Stow finished the night with 13 kills and nine blocks while Marusak had 12 kills. Watson paced the WT offense with 44 assists and 11 digs for a double-double with Kaycee Cavanaugh registering 14 digs.
 
The Lady Buffs registered 56 kills on 123 swings with 16 attack errors to hit .325 as a team to go along with 52 assists, 52 digs, six aces and 10 blocks. Oklahoma Baptist battled all night as they had 47 kills on 139 swings with 24 errors to hit .165 as a team with 45 assists, one ace, 41 digs and seven blocks.
 
Allie Stricker finished the match with a team-best 13 kills on 30 swings with two digs and a block. Emily Boyer registered 26 assists with five digs while Karsyn Hunter had 13 digs in the back row for the Bison.
