CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M open Lone Star Conference action on Wednesday afternoon as they host the Texas A&M International Dustdevils with kickoff set for 3:00 p.m. at The Pitch in Canyon, Texas.
 
SAINT MARTIN'S REWIND
The Buffs closed out their non-conference schedule in style on Saturday afternoon as they picked up a 2-0 shutout win over the Saints of Saint Martin's at the Toyota Soccer Complex in Frisco, Texas. Desire Essis put the Buffs on the board in the 48th minute off a pass from Delahmu Reeves followed by a D'Jonte Davis goal in the 73rd minute from Connor Duggan.
 
A LOOK AT THE DUSTDEVILS
Texas A&M International enters the week with an overall record of 2-1-4 as they will play their first LSC match of the season on Wednesday afternoon. The Dustdevils suffered a 6-1 loss to UT Rio Grande Valley last Thursday in Laredo. 
 
Chris Fuentes and Kai Louiere have led the way for the Dustdevils with three goals each while Tiziano Klamler has dished out five assists with three goals to lead the team with nine total points. TAMIU averages 2.29 goals per game this season as they have 85 total shots with 37 of them coming on goal.
 
TAMIU HEAD COACH CLAUDIO ARIAS
Claudio Arias is now in his 22nd season as the head coach of the Texas A&M International soccer program. Arias led the Dustdevils to three Heartland Conference Championships to go along with the program's first trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2019.
 
A LOOK AT THE SERIES
Wednesday afternoon will mark the 22nd all-time meeting on the pitch between the Buffs and Dustdevils, WT leads the all-time series 10-7-4. The two teams battled to a scoreless draw during last season's matchup in Laredo on October 2, 2024.
 
WT HEAD COACH BUTCH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer is now in his 35th season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M. Lauffer is the longest tenured head coach in WT history in a storied career dating back to 1991. Lauffer reached the 500-win plateau on Sept. 30, 2017 with a dominating 13-2 win over UT Permian Basin. 
 
During his tenure, Lauffer coached the men to 31 consecutive non-losing seasons from 1993 to 2023 and the women to 12-plus victories in 12 seasons. Lauffer has recorded a 382-178-59 (.665) record at the helm of the Buffs with a 572-245-75 (.683) overall record at WT.
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
West Texas A&M was picked fifth in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
Midwestern State claimed 16 of the possible 33 first place votes for 338 points to sit atop of the poll followed by St. Mary's (13 first place, 331), St. Edward's (three first place, 297), DBU (241), West Texas A&M (239), Lubbock Christian (169), UT Tyler (161), Oklahoma Christian (134), UT Dallas (104), Texas A&M International (one first place, 86) and Sul Ross State (78).
 
Arthur Souza of St. Edward's was tabbed the league's Preseason Player of the Year while Luke Mulkey and Johnny Thurbin from St. Mary's claimed Defensive and Goalkeeper Preseason Honors.
