CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M found their rhythm at the plate in the nightcap to split a Sunday Lone Star Conference doubleheader with the Lubbock Christian Chaps at Hays Field in Lubbock, Texas.

The Buffs and Chaps close out the series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch of the finale set for 1:00 p.m. in Lubbock.

GAME ONE
Lubbock Christian jumped out to a lead in the bottom of the second inning as Frayner Chavez singled back to the mound to score Kyle Lewis followed by a Shea Bowen RBI groundout that plated Adam Garcia for the 2-0 advantage.

The Chaps added to their lead in the home half of the third inning as Kade York lifted a sac fly to left with the bases loaded and one out for the 3-0 lead. LCU extended their lead in the fourth on back-to-back RBI single by Jacob Gutierrez and Nicklaus Baumbach to make it 5-0.

The Buffs finally got on the board in the top of the seventh inning as
Seth Ochoa was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs to score
Ryan Camacho before an LCU pitching change and a strikeout ended the game, 5-1.

Max Lankford claimed the loss (4-2) for the Buffs, allowing three earned runs on four hits with six walks and a strikeout in his 2.1 innings of work.

GAME TWO
WT got on the board in the top of the opening frame in the nightcap as
Kory Schmidt doubled down the right field line with one out to score
Jovan Camacho followed by a
Dylan Fesperman RBI groundout for the 2-0 lead.

The Chaps responded in the home half of the first inning on a Gutierrez triple to the gap in right center to score Shea Bowen followed by a wild pitch to score Gutierrez to make it 2-2. WT used the long ball to retake the lead in the second as
Elijah Batista took a solo shot the other way to right field for the 3-2 lead.

LCU retook the lead in the bottom of the second inning as Gutierrez singled thru the right side to drive in a pair followed by a wild pitch that plated Bowen for the 5-3 lead. WT answered back in the top of the third as Ochoa singled to left field to score Schmidt followed by a wild pitch to score Fesperman, Batista would lift a sac fly to center to score Ochoa followed by a
Rodric Black RBI groundout for a 7-5 lead.

The Buffs added some insurance runs in the top of the sixth with two outs as Schmidt singled to right to drive in a pair followed by an Ochoa RBI single and a
Glenn Noronha two-run double, WT wasn't done yet as Black singled to thru the left side to score two more followed by a J. Camacho RBI single for the 15-5 lead.

WT extended their lead in the top of the seventh inning as Schmidt doubled off of the right field wall followed two batters later by a wild pitch to make it 16-5. LCU cut into the lead in the bottom of the frame as Brevin McCool connected on a solo homerun to left field.Â

Nathan Scott picked up the win (4-2) for the Buffs, allowing two earned runs on six hits with no walks and five strikeouts in his 5.2 innings of relief.
