Buffs Roll Past Texas A&M-Kingsville on Senior Day, 10-2

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M closes out the regular season in style on Sunday afternoon as they picked up a 10-2 Lone Star Conference victory over the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas at Wilder Park in Canyon, Texas.
 
The Buffs got on the board in the top of the third inning as Ryan Camacho singled thru the right side with one out to plate Jovan Camacho for the 1-0 lead. TAMUK responded in the top of the fourth on a Vincent Sanchez RBI double to the gap in right center to plate Easton Hewitt at 1-1.
 
WT retook the lead in the home half of the fourth inning on a J. Camacho RBI single to center that score Seth Ochoa along with an errant throw by the Javelinas that plated two more for the 4-1 lead.
 
Dylan Fesperman extended the WT lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double to the gap in left center that scored Kory Schmidt from first base for the 5-1 lead.
 
The Buffs used the long ball to extend their lead in the home half of the seventh as R. Camacho started off the frame with a solo shot to left field, Josh Zapata would double to left field to drive in a run followed by an Elijah Batista two-run single to center for the 9-1 lead.
 
WT added to their lead in the eighth on a Fesperman RBI single up the middle that plated J. Camacho for the 10-1 lead. Kingsville cut into the lead in the top of the ninth on a Cash Benadives leadoff solo homerun to left field 
 
Matt Whitney picked up the win (1-0) for the Buffs, allowing one run on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts in his 6.0 innings of work in his first start in Maroon & White. Nathan Scott claimed a save as the righty allowed one earned run on two hits with no walks and two strikeouts in the final free frames.
 
The Buffs have punched their ticket to the opening weekend of the Lone Star Conference Baseball Championships next weekend as the complete field and tournament schedule will be announced Sunday evening following the conclusion of the regular season games.
