CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M led by five runs going into the bottom of the ninth before the Lubbock Christian Chaps plated six runs with no outs for a walkoff 11-10 victory in game one of the opening weekend of the 2025 Lone Star Conference Baseball Championships at Hays Field in Lubbock, Texas.

The Buffs jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second frame as
Jovan Camacho singled to right with the bases loaded and one out to drive in a pair followed by a
Kyle Micklus sacrifice bunt that scored
Rodric Black,
Kory Schmidt would triple to left center to drive in two more followed by a
Dylan Fesperman RBI single that made it 6-0.

WT added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning on a Schmidt RBI double to the gap in left center that plated Micklus, Schmidt would score from third on a passed ball for the 8-0 advantage.Â

LCU would get on the scoreboard in the home half of the sixth inning on a Jacob Gutierrez two-run triple to right field followed by RBI base hits from Kyle Lewis and Brock Tijerina to make it 8-4. The Buffs would add to their lead in the top of the eight as Micklus and
Ryan Camacho would score on wild pitches at 8-4.

The Chaps cut into the advantage in the bottom of the frame with Lewis scoring on a Buffalo error. The ninth inning saw LCU send eight hitters to the plate all with no outs as a Frayner Chavez sac fly to left field that scored Carson Shields for the 11-10 walkoff win.

The Buffs and Chaps return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon with first pitch of game two scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Hays Field.
