Fast Start Propels WT Past Oklahoma Christian in the Opener, 13-5

CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes plated seven runs in the third inning and never looked back as they picked up a 13-5 Lone Star Conference victory over Oklahoma Christian in the series opener on Friday night at Dobson Field in Edmond, Oklahoma.

The Buffs started off the scoring in the top of the second inning as reigning LSC Hitter of the Week Dylan Fesperman lifted a solo shot over the wall in left center to start the frame for a 1-0 lead. OC responded in the home half of the frame as Jontae Hennesy scored from third on a wild pitch with no outs to make it 1-1.

WT retook the lead in the top of the third inning as Ryan Camacho doubled to right center to score Rodric Black with one out followed by a Fesperman RBI double to left, Seth Ochoa registered the fourth double of the inning to drive in a pair followed by a Josh Zapata two-run double down the left field line and a Black RBI single to left for the 8-1 lead.

The Buffs continued to roll at the plate in the top of the fourth as Zapata drew an RBI walk with the bases loaded and two outs followed by a Glenn Noronha two-run single to right for the 11-1 lead. The Eagles cut into the lead in the bottom of the frame as Elijah Laus drove in Cason Gregory on a fielder's choice groundout followed by a WT fielding error that plated a pair to make it 11-4.

Oklahoma Christian cut into the lead again in the home half of the fifth inning as Hennesy singled to center field to plate Hunter Jones at 11-5. WT extended their lead in the top of the ninth inning as Kyle Micklus singled to first base with one out to plate Zapata followed later in the frame by an OC error that scored Black for the 13-5 lead.
