CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes clinch a Lone Star Conference weekend series from the rival Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds with a pair of Saturday victories at Wilder Park in Canyon, Texas.

The Buffs look for a series sweep tomorrow afternoon as first pitch of the finale is set for 1:00 p.m. in Canyon.

Game 1
The Greyhounds looked to start off the scoring in the top of the third inning as Daniel Pruitt led off the frame with a double to left followed later in the inning by a double play ball to
Elijah Batista that ended the frame still scoreless.

The Buffs manufactured a run a run in the home half of the third as a
Ryan Camacho walk followed by a sacrifice bunt and a
Kory Schmidt RBI single thru the right side for a 1-0 lead. WT would add to their lead in the bottom of the fourth as they took advantage of an ENMU error to make it 2-0.

The Hounds used the long ball to tie the game in the top of the fifth as Daniel Pruitt connected on a two-run shot down the right field line just inside the foul pole. WT responded in the bottom of the frame as Schmidt singled to left field to drive in
Jovan Camacho for the 3-2 lead.

ENMU's first lead of the game came in the sixth as Kyle Kiernan lifted a two-run homerun to right field at 4-3. The Buffs would take advantage of another Hounds error in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4. The game would go into extra innings as the Buffs put runners on the corners with a leadoff double by
Seth Ochoa followed by a
Josh Zapata single,
Glenn Noronha would pinch-run for Ochoa before a
Ryan Camacho squeeze bunt scored Noronha for the 5-4 win.

Tai Phetlugnasy picked up the win (1-1) for the Buffs, allowing no runs on one hit with two strikeouts in his 1.1 innings of relief.

GAME 2
The Hounds got on the board in the top of the first inning as Luciano Terilli would score from third base on a passed ball with two outs for the 1-0 advantage. The Buffs responded in the bottom of the second on a Zapata RBI double to the gap in left center to score
Zac Rackham followed by a
Kyle Micklus RBI double to right that plated a pair for the 2-1 lead.

WT added to their lead in the fourth as J. Camacho singled to right with two outs to plate R. Camacho followed by a two-run homerun down the right field line by Micklus to make it 6-1. Zapata continued his hot start to the season in the fifth as the senior singled thru the right side to plate Batista to make it 7-1.

Eastern New Mexico wouldn't go down without a fight as they plated three runs in the top of the sixth on a Jalen Freeman two-run single followed by an Adrien Martin sac fly to center field at 7-4. The Buffalo bullpen would lock down in the seventh as ENMU loaded the bases with two outs before a strikeout to end the game, 7-4.

Chase Weaver claimed the win (1-0) for the Buffs, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts in his 5.1 innings of work. Phetluangsy would claim his third save, allowing two hits with a walk and two strikeouts in the final frame.
