Big Third Inning Powers the Buffs to an LSC Sweep, 15-2

CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M plated seven runs in the third inning on their way to a 15-2 victory over the rival Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds to complete a Lone Star Conference weekend sweep at Wilder Park in Canyon, Texas. 
 
WT started the scoring in the home half of the second inning as Elijah Batista scored from third on an RBI grounder by Ryan Camacho followed by an RBI double to the left center field gap by Rodric Black for the 2-0 lead.
 
The Buffs blew the game open in the bottom of the third inning as they sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring seven runs on six hits with three ENMU errors. Kyle Micklus stared off the frame with his fourth homerun of the series, a solo shot to right center followed by a Seth Ochoa RBI single to right and a Josh Zapata sac fly to score Batista. Ochoa would score on an error followed by a Black RBI single and another Hounds miscue before Micklus lined a single back to the mound to make it 9-0
 
The Greyhounds got on the board in the top of the fourth inning as Beau Preston lifted a two-run double down the right field line with two outs to make it 9-2. WT added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth as Micklus lifted a sac fly to right to score Black followed by a Kory Schmidt RBI double to center for an 11-2 lead.
 
The Buff extended their lead again in the bottom of the sixth as Black lined out to right to score Zapata followed by a Jovan Camacho two-run triple to the gap in left center and a Micklus RBI groundout to make it 15-2.
 
Max Lankford picked up the win (1-0) for the Buffs, allowing no runs on no hits with no walks and five strikeouts over the final three frames.
 
The Buffs hit the road next weekend for Lone Star Conference action as they make their way to Lawton, Oklahoma for a four-game series with the Cameron Aggies starting on Friday afternoon at McCord Field.
