Second Half Run Powers the #13 Buffs Past Oklahoma Christian, 94-70

CANYON, Texas – The #13 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M went on a 21-3 scoring run late in the second half to pull away from the Oklahoma Christian Eagles, 94-70 during the Lone Star Conference opener at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas on Thursday night.
 
West Texas A&M opened the first half with a strong performance in the paint, scoring 20 points inside and capitalizing on fast breaks with 14 points. Fontaine Williams contributed significantly, making key baskets, including a 3-pointer near the four-minute mark, and adding points from the free-throw line. Camden Cowgill also made an impact with a crucial 3-pointer and fast-break layup to keep the momentum on the home side.
 
Despite some turnovers, the Buffs managed to stay ahead, thanks to efficient shooting and defensive pressure, forcing nine turnovers on Oklahoma Christian. By the end of the half, WT led 44-37, maintaining a tight grip on the game.
 
The Buffs began the second half with a strong defensive performance, quickly capitalizing on Oklahoma Christian's turnovers. Zach Brown's early 3-pointer at 17:48 ignited a scoring run, helping the Buffs extend their lead. The team maintained pressure with Williams converting fast-break opportunities, pushing the score to 51-41.
 
WT continued to dominate offensively with effective shooting from beyond the arc, including multiple 3-pointers by Cowgill. The home team forced numerous turnovers, translating them into quick points, and effectively stretched their lead. The half closed with West Tex. A&M firmly in control, outscoring Oklahoma Christian 50-33, and concluding the game with a strong 94-70 victory.
 
Williams scored 26 points, added six assists, and collected three rebounds, leading the team's offensive efforts. Brown contributed 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and recorded two steals. Cowgill posted 16 points with three 3-pointers and added four rebounds. Jailyn Sledge recorded nine points and led the team defensively with five steals and seven rebounds.
 
The Buffs return to action on Saturday afternoon as the host the Cameron Aggies in LSC action starting at 3:00 p.m. in Canyon.
