CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M continue their homestand on Saturday afternoon as they host the Central Oklahoma Bronchos at the First United Bank Center with tipoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Canyon.

CHADRON STATE REWIND
West Texas A&M opened their home schedule with a pair of big regional wins over Chadron State at the FUBC, WT outscored the Eagles 216-159 in the pair of victories. Saturday saw the Buffs score 61 points in the first half and never look back on their way to a 118-83 win.Â

SCOUTING THE BRONCHOS
Central Oklahoma enters the weekend with an overall record of 4-2 to start the 2025-26 campaign. UCO went 1-2 during the D2CCA TIpoff Classic in British Columbia with a season-opening win over Simon Fraser (75-60) before falling to Central Washington (75-65) and Western Washington (69-63). The Bronchos come to Canyon riding a three-game win streak over Minnesota Crookston (62-47), Arkansas Monticello (70-57) and Southwestern Oklahoma State (67-51).

Central Oklahoma returns nine lettermen from last season's squad that went 19-13, the Bronchos added 10 newcomers for one of the deepest teams in school history. All-MIAA honoree Jacobi Sebock headlines the UCO returners as the senior forward from Midwest City, Oklahoma has averaged 16.3 points and 5.5 rebounds so far this season. Sebock led the MIAA with 7.7 rebounds per game last season.

Junior Matthew Willenborg played all 32 games for the Bronchos last season. The Norman High School product averaged 4.9 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game while leading the MIAA with 1.5 blocks per game.

UCO HEAD COACH BOB HOFFMAN
Bob Hoffman was named head men's basketball coach at Central Oklahoma in August of 2019 as he enters his seventh season leading the Bronchos. Hoffman has guided UCO to an overall record of 117-68 during his time in Edmond with a pair of trips to the NCAA Tournament.

Hoffman has a career record of 724-404, including a 636-388 record as a men's head coach. The Oklahoma City native came to Edmond following 11 seasons as the head coach at Mercer University. He has coached at multiple levels, winning an NAIA national championship as a women's head coach at Southern Nazarene in 1989, winning nearly 250 games as an NAIA men's head coach, assisting at the Division I level, and leading teams in the ABA and the NBA's Development League.

THE SERIES
Saturday afternoon will mark the 50th all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Buffs and Bronchos in a series that dates back to 1934. West Texas A&M is 27-22 in the series, winning the last two meetings between the former Lone Star Conference foes. UCO was a member of the LSC from 1988-2011 before joining the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association in 2012.

The last meeting between the two teams came on November 14, 2024 in Edmond as the Buffs claimed an 85-78 victory.
Ahamed Mohammed led the way for the Buffs, going 5-of-13 from the floor including 9-of-10 from the free throw line for a team-best 20 points followed by

WT HEAD COACH TOM BROWN
Tom Brown, who enters his 12th season at the helm of the West Texas A&M men's basketball program, has built the Buffs into one of the elite NCAA Division II programs in the nation.  He has guided WT to nine consecutive NCAA Tournaments including the Buffs first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship game in 2021.Â

Brown was hired as the 17th head coach in program history on April 16, 2014. In the past 10 seasons, Coach Brown and his staff are 270-62 (.813) and an average of 27 wins a season with appearances in the Sweet 16, Elite Eight, Final Four (2) and National Title game. During his time in Canyon, Brown is 289-75 (.794) overall and 155-43 (.783) in league action.Â

LSC PRESEASON POLL
Defending Regional Champion Dallas Baptist claimed 42 of the possible 51 first place votes for a total of 850 points to sit atop of the poll followed by St. Mary's (two first place, 724), Lubbock Christian (four first place, 720), St. Edward's (669) and West Texas A&M (two first place, 654) to round out the top five.

Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico tied for sixth with 592 points followed by Midwestern State (558), UT Permian Basin (468), Texas A&M International (one first place, 350), Texas A&M-Kingsville (330), Cameron (301), Oklahoma Christian (266), UT Tyler (260), Western New Mexico (193), UT Dallas (188) and Sul Ross State (88).

St. Mary's Damani Claxton was tabbed the league's Preseason Player of the Year. The Bronx, New York native averaged 17.1 points, 2.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game last season. He made 45 3-pointers and shot 80.4 percent from the free throw line. Claxton was named LSC Newcomer of the Year and earned first-team All-LSC honors.

NABC DIVISION II PRESEASON POLL
The Buffaloes are receiving votes in the preseason edition of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II poll announced earlier this week. The South Central Region is represented by Dallas Baptist (3rd), Colorado School of Mines (10th), Black Hills State (17th), Lubbock Christian (25th), St. Mary's (RV), West Texas A&M (RV) and Colorado Mesa (RV).

2024-25 RECAP
The 2024-25 campaign saw WT made the NCAA National Tournament for a ninth-consecutive season where three freshmen made the LSC All-Freshman team. The Buffs also posted a 3.48 GPA in the classroom, tops in the Lone Star Conference for a second consecutive year. WT was named a recipient of the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Academic Excellence Award as
Brock Mishak and
Nicholas Jett were named to the NABC Honor Court.
