CANYON, Texas – The #14 Lady Buffs continue Lone Star Conference action this week as they welcome Midwestern State and Eastern New Mexico to the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon.
 
MIDWESTERN STATE
The Mustangs enter the week with an overall record of 9-3 with a 3-1 mark in Lone Star Conference action. MSU split last weekend's action as they topped St. Edward's in four sets on Friday before dropping a five-set thriller at St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon.
 
Stephanie Radecki is in her fourth season at the helm of the Midwestern State volleyball program, being named the 10th head coach in program history in April of 2022. She came to MSU following four seasons as the head coach at Southern Mississippi. 
 
Trinity Vinzant leads the way offensively for the Mustangs as the senior outside from Decatur, Texas has registered 150 kills on 465 swings with 54 attack errors to hit .206 on the year to go along with 11 assists, 21 aces, 126 digs and 11 total blocks.
 
A LOOK AT THE SERIES
Tuesday night will be the 45th all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Lady Buffs and Mustangs as WT holds a 43-1 advantage in the series that dates back to 1980. Midwestern State is 0-21 all-time in Canyon with their last trip to the Panhandle coming in 2024.
 
EASTERN NEW MEXICO
The Greyhounds enter the week with an overall record of 3-11 with a 1-3 mark in Lone Star Conference action as they ride a three-game losing streak. Last week saw Eastern New Mexico fall in four sets to Texas Woman's on Friday followed by a straight set loss to Dallas Baptist in Portales on Saturday afternoon.
 
Karli Bustos joined Eastern New Mexico Athletics in January 2025 as the head volleyball coach after five seasons as the head coach at Trinidad State Junior College in Trinidad, Colorado. With the Trojans, she guided the program to a 63-91 record. Most notably, Bustos helped the program go from a 2-20 season in 2020-21 to a 23-10 mark in 2024-25. The 2024-25 season is the highest winning percentage (.696) in school history. TSJC qualified for the NJCAA Region IX tournament three times during her tenure.
 
Sophia Valdez leads the way offensively for the Greyhounds as the junior from Roswell, New Mexico as she has registered 173 kills on 451 swings with 71 errors for an attack percentage of .226 to go along with eight assists, one ace, 51 digs and 25 total blocks.
 
A LOOK AT THE SERIES
Saturday afternoon marks the 89th all-time meeting on the court between the Lady Buffs and Greyhounds in a series that dates back to 1980. They Greyhounds are 2-39 all-time inside of the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" with their last trip to the Texas Panhandle coming in 2022.

West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 22 Lone Star Conference Championships, 16 Regional Titles and four NCAA Division II National Championships. 
 
The Box boasts one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 562-85 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.7%.
 
LSC PRESEASON DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Senior middle blocker Taytum Stow was named the 2025 Lone Star Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year announced on Monday, August 25th. The Hereford product ed the league with 138 blocks (1.27 per set) on her way to a second LSC Defensive Player of the Year Award (also 2022). Stow was also third in the LSC with a .364 hitting percentage and earned honorable mention All-American status.
 
THE GAMBLE ERA
Three-time National Champion and NJCAA Hall of Famer Terry Gamble was named the 17th head coach in Lady Buff Volleyball history on February 4, 2025. Gamble has compiled a record of 1,107-349 (.759) as he was just the third head coach in NJCAA history to reach 1,000 career wins on October 15, 2024.
 
Gamble came to Canyon following seven seasons at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. Gamble was named the Regional Coach of the Year for the third time, leading Blinn College to their fifth straight NJCAA National Tournament. He was inducted into the NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2007 after winning three NJCAA volleyball championships (2000, 2004, 2006) and three NJCAA Coach of the Year awards.
 
LADY BUFFS IN THE AVCA POLL
The Lady Buffs sit 14th in the newest edition of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top-25 Poll announced on Monday afternoon. It marks the 322nd time since 1986 that the Lady Buffs appear in the poll, the sixth most in Division II history. WT has sat atop of the poll 28 different times including twice during the 2023 campaign.
