#14 Lady Buffs Roll Past Eastern New Mexico in LSC Action

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M closed out their homestand in style on Saturday afternoon as they made quick work of the rival Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico (25-12, 25-14, 25-11) at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon.
 
West Texas A&M commenced the first set with strong defensive play, quickly taking control. Taytum Stow led the defensive efforts with multiple blocks, contributing to an early lead. Kaycee Cavanaugh and Bromli Watson connected efficiently, resulting in several key kills that widened the margin. The Lady Buffs maintained their momentum through consistent pressure, capitalizing on Eastern New Mexico's errors. Emma Becker and Currie Marusak added crucial points, while the team's service game, highlighted by a Kaycee Cavanaugh ace, kept the visitors on the back foot. West Texas A&M closed the set decisively, 25-12, establishing a commanding presence from the outset.
 
WT began the second set with a robust performance, capitalizing on Eastern's attack errors to establish a quick 5-0 lead. Currie Marusak and Parker Gladhill were instrumental early, with Gladhill contributing critical blocks. Cavanaugh added a kill to extend the lead to 6-1, keeping momentum firmly with the Lady Buffs. Midway through the set, ENMU mounted a brief rally, closing the gap to 8-6, but the Buffs responded efficiently. Becker and Cavanaugh delivered key kills, while Stow's block extended the lead. WT maintained their advantage through the latter stages, with Cavanaugh continuing her offensive impact. Abby Borchardt facilitated the closing, as WTAMU clinched the set 25-14, securing a commanding performance over the Hounds.
 
The third set began with ENMU taking an early point off an attack error but WT quickly responded with a kill from Gladhill and a rally that shifted momentum. Cavanaugh and Stow contributed significantly with Cavanaugh delivering a series of kills and Stow blocking effectively, leading to a 5-2 lead. The Lady Buffs continued to capitalize on Greyhound errors, extending their lead further through strong offensive plays from Marusak and Watson. A service ace by Stow widened the margin, and Watson's consistent setting facilitated multiple scoring opportunities, pushing the score to 14-4. As the set progressed, WT maintained their lead, with pivotal blocks by Becker and Stow bolstering their defense. Despite a few scoring exchanges, the home team kept control, with Marusak's final kill and a service ace by Camryn Heiser securing the set at 25-11.
 
Kaycee Cavanaugh led the offensive efforts for the Lady Buffs with 12 kills and added two assists, contributing a team-high 13.5 points. Taytum Stow made a significant impact at the net, recording eight total blocks while also serving an ace. Currie Marusak excelled with 10 kills on a .600 hitting percentage and added seven digs in defensive plays. Bromli Watson facilitated the offense with 25 assists, ensuring consistent ball distribution throughout the match. Emma Becker contributed defensively with seven digs and four total blocks, rounding out a strong all-around performance.
 
Addison Bartlett led Eastern New Mexico in assists with seven, making a significant impact in all three games. Amya Speller contributed heavily on the net, recording six kills with a .25 hitting percentage and adding three total blocks. Violeta Flores facilitated the offense with 11 assists across the matches, while Sophia Valdez showcased her defensive skills with one solo block and one dig. Aaliyah Butler also added five kills, contributing to her total of five points.
 
The Lady Buffs hit the road next week as they travel to Silver City, New Mexico and Alpine, Texas for Lone Star Conference action.
