LOS LUNAS, N.M. – West Texas A&M softball started its 2025 campaign with a bang as the Lady Buffs defeated New Mexico Highlands 11-0 and Adams State 33-0, both in five innings. The 33 runs are the most in program history for a single game.
The Lady Buffs return to action tomorrow with games against UCCS and Simon Fraser.
THE BASICS

WT opened the scoring in the second as a leadoff double from
Heaven Moreno came around to score on the next batter when
Halie Stoneking singled to right field. Stoneking stole second before advancing to third on
Emily Liskai's flyout to center. With two outs,
Lauren Granger cashed in on the RBI opportunity as the junior ripped a single up the middle.
In the bottom of the third, an
Emilee Boyer home run to right center pushed the Lady Buffs' lead to 3-0.
Cadence Colborn followed the home run with a triple down the right field line, placing a runner on third with one out. After Colborn's triple, Moreno wasted no time in bringing in the freshman as the Amarillo, Texas native singled through the left side. A Stoneking single followed by an
Avery Cannon walk loaded the bases for WT with one out, but a fielder's choice off the bat of Liskai cut the runner down at the plate. With a chance to break the game open,
Lauren Granger forced in a run with a four-pitch walk to extend the lead to 5-0.
The Lady Buffs brought the run rule into play in the bottom of the fourth with six runs on four hits, making the score 11-0.
Abby Howell started the offensive burst with a four-pitch walk to lead off the inning before being lifted for pinch-runner
Lily Mulder. Mulder promptly stole second during Boyer's at-bat, placing a runner in scoring position and no outs. Back-to-back singles from Boyer and Colborn plated a pair of runs before an RBI groundout from Cannon added another. With two outs, a Liskai walk followed by a double steal with Moreno pushed the advantage to double digits. WT capped off its scoring on a Howell single to right center to score Granger, reaching the 11-0 final.
Boyer impressed in her season-debut in the circle, throwing four innings with five strikeouts and just one hit allowed.
Ashley Mandell finished out the game with a strikeout on three batters faced.

The Lady Buffs started their record-setting game in impressive fashion as WT hit for the home run cycle in the first inning. Granger, Boyer, Stoneking, Howell, and
Trinity Kuntz recorded home runs in the inning. In the inning, the Lady Buffs scored 14 runs on eight hits against two pitchers.
WT added five more in the bottom of the second as a leadoff single from
Brianna Stokes, advancing to second and third on wild pitches. A Granger walk set up a Kylie Avery single down the line scored stokes. A Rylie Stiner walk loaded the bases where a Moreno triple in the gap cleared the bases and pushed the lead to 18.
Kendall Luna de la Fuente plated the final run of the inning on an RBI groundout, sending the game to the third inning with a 19-0 score.
The Lady Buffs capped off the historic game with 14 runs on 10 hits and three Adams State errors in the bottom of the fourth. In the first seven batters of the inning, six WT batters reached to score three runs quickly. Holding a large lead, the Lady Buffs started moving station-to-station with Colborn doubling in Stokes for the final run of the game.
Kendall Selitzky earned her first collegiate win in the circle, tossing four shutout innings with seven strikeouts, four walks, and two hits allowed.
