CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M jumps back into Lone Star Conference action on Saturday night as they host the #14 Wildcats of Central Washington for Hall of Champions Weekend at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
 
GAME PROMOTIONS
Saturday's contest is presented by The People's Federal Credit Union. It marks Hall of Champions Weekend as WT will honor their Class of 2024 on Friday night following by the inductees being presented to the crowd at halftime on Saturday night. It is also Youth Football Night as local youth players can receive free admission with their team's jersey, they are also invited to run onto the field with the Buffs.
 
WCU RECAP
The Buffaloes had their chances on Saturday night but mistakes in the red zone were too much to overcome as WT fell to the #15 Mountaineers of Western Colorado, 26-17 during the home opener at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium in front of 6,219 fans.
 
LSC NEWS & NOTES
Week 2 of Lone Star Conference football featured Angelo State earning a conference victory and five teams – No. 13 Central Washington, Sul Ross State, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT Permian Basin and Western New Mexico – capturing non-conference wins. Midwestern State had the only bye.
 
WEEK 3 MATCHUPS
Saturday is the first weekend of the season that features a full slate of Lone Star Conference contests. Texas A&M-Kingsville travels to Midland, Sul Ross State hosts Western Oregon, Angelo State make the drive to Silver City, Eastern New Mexico welcomes Midwestern State and Central Washington travels to Canyon.
 
A LOOK AT THE WILDCATS
The Wildcats enter the weekend with an overall record of 1-1 as they begin LSC action against the Buffs. CWU fell to Division I San Diego (26-7) in the season opener before responding with a 28-12 road win at Colorado Mesa last Saturday in Grand Junction.
 
Kennedy McGill guides the Wildcat offense as the sophomore has completed 21-of-41 passes for 225 yards while carrying the ball 26 times for 175 yards and two scores. LSC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Tanner Volk leads the way for the Wildcats as the Harlon Hill Finalist has registered 16 total tackles.
 
CWU HEAD COACH CHRIS FISK
Chris Fisk is now in his sixth season at the helm of the Central Washington football program, entering Saturday with an overall record of 31-17. Fisk spent three seasons as an assistant in Ellensburg before being promoted to head coach in February of 2019. Fish led the Wildcats to the Regional Finals in 2023.
 
THE SERIES
Saturday night marks the eighth all-time meeting on the gridiron between the Buffs and Wildcats. WT holds a 5-2 advantage in the series that dates back to 2008. The Wildcats are 0-4 all-time in Canyon including 0-2 at Buffalo Stadium.
 
HEAD COACH JOSH LYNN
Josh Lynn is now in his second season at the helm of the West Texas A&M Football program after being named the 29th head coach in WT history.
 
Lynn, widely regarded as one of the nation's up-and-coming head coaches, came to Canyon following six seasons at the University of Nebraska-Kearney where he led the Lopers to an overall record of 35-25 including a run to the Second Round of the 2021 NCAA Division II Playoffs. Lynn coached 61 all-conference selections during his time in Kearney while being named the MIAA Coach of the Year in 2021.
 
WT FOOTBALL WEEKLY REPORT
West Texas A&M Athletics has partnered with Panhandle Sports Star 1029 FM ESPN along with The Lumberyard to present the West Texas A&M Football Weekly Report.
 
Host Lucas Kinsey will be joined by Josh Lynn along with student-athletes and assistant coaches in the one-hour show being aired on Panhandle Sports Star 1029 FM ESPN. The show, presented by The Lumberyard, will take place at Feldman's Wrong Way Diner (2100 N 2nd Ave.) in Canyon.
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Central Washington picked up 20 of the possible 30 first place votes for a total of 286 points to sit atop of the poll followed by Angelo State (six first place, 260), defending LSC Champion UT Permian Basin (four first place, 244), Texas A&M-Kingsville (202), Midwestern State (153), West Texas A&M (149), Eastern New Mexico (128), Western Oregon (118), Western New Mexico (68) and Sul Ross State (42).
 
WHERE THE BUFFALOES ROAM
West Texas A&M is home to one of the premiere college football facilities in the country as Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium opened on September 7, 2019 to a capacity crowd of 10,145 fans as the Buffs toppled Asuza Pacific, 35-16. The state-of-the-art facility included Hellas Matrix FusionH XP2 artificial turf along with seven ground-level suites and the Fairly Group Club.

Saturday night's contest will be broadcasted on FloSports. The LSC and FloSports reached a historic agreement in August for the largest streaming rights deal in NCAA Division II history.

West Texas A&M is home to one of the most successful athletic programs in all of NCAA Division II.
 
The Buffs and Lady Buffs finished third in the 2023-24 Division II LEARFIELD Director's Cup standings. It marked the sixth straight and eighth overall time that WT finished inside of the Top-10 including the fifth straight inside of the Top-5.
