CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M senior
Nick Marshall moved into a tie atop of the all-time victories list on Saturday afternoon as the #4 Buffs picked up a 7-5 victory over #18 Lubbock Christian at Wilder Park in Canyon, Texas as WT moved to 2-1 in the Lone Star Conference series.

The Buffs jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning as
Kory Schmidt singled up the middle with no outs to drive in
Glenn Noronha and
Kyle Micklus for the 2-0 advantage. WT used the long ball to extend their lead in the bottom of the second as
Elijah Batista lifted a two-run shot down the left field line for the 4-0 lead.

LCU responded in the top of the third inning as Jarred Gibson grounded into a double play with the bases loaded and no outs to drive in Frayner Chaves followed later in the frame by a Nate Van Maanen RBI double to the gap in left center to make it 4-2.

The Buffs added to their lead in the home half of the third inning as
Dylan Fesperman and
Seth Ochoa drew walks with the bases loaded and no outs for the 6-2 lead. LCU answered in the top of the fourth as Chaves singled up the middle with one out to drive in Ryan Ball followed by a Carson Ogilvie RBI single thru the right side to make it 6-4.

WT added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth frame on a Fesperman RBI double to left field with two outs to score Ryan Camcho for the 7-4 lead. The Chaps cut into the lead again in the top of the sixth on a Van Maanen RBI walk with the bases loaded to make it 7-5.

Marshall picked up the win on the mound (3-4) for the Buffs, allowing one earned run on five hits with two walk and four strikeouts in his 4.2 innings of relief. moves into a tie atop of West Texas A&M's all-time wins list with former All-American Joe Corbett (2018-19) with 23 victories in Maroon & White.

Douglas Rojas claimed his third save of the season, walking one and registering a strikeout in the final frame to close out the 7-5 win.

The Buffs and Chaps close out the series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m. on Senior Day at Wilder Park.
