CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Track and Field team went the distance to Azuza, California to compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational from April 11-13. The selected group of mid-distance and long distance runners shone in the maroon and white against professional runners and runners across all NCAA divisions.
PERSONAL BESTS
On Saturday, there were three personal best finishes. Graduate student
Jay Hall ran a personal best in the 5,000-meter in 14 minutes, 41 seconds. His race was the earliest start at 7:00 a.m. PDT (9:00 a.m. CT). Matthys Bourse ran the 1500-meter in 4 muntes, 4 seconds for his personal best in this second race of the weekend. He also competed in the 3,000m steeplechase on Thursday night.
Betty Bajika finished first in her 1500-meter heat and ran the fourth fastest time in WT history at 4 minutes, 28 seconds. Joining her in the top-10 in the 1500-meter are Kalkindan Vincendeau running 4 minutes, 29 seconds for seventh best WT time and freshman
Sarah Koomson for the ninth best time in 4 minutes, 31 seconds. Koomson came in third in her heat beating out NCAA DI opponents from Texas, Oklahoma State and Colorado.
RECAPPING THE WEEKEND
William Amponsah and
Harry Louradour both broke the school record in the 10,000-meter with Amponsah taking the top time in 28 minutes flat. Amponsah's time ranks second best in NCAA DII history in the event. Louradour finshed in 28 minutes, 27 seconds for the second-best WT time.
Adrian Legarreta finished with a personal best in the same event in 29 minutes, 43 seconds and the fifth fastest time in WT history. It was his first time breaking 30 minutes in the 10,000m.
Enrico Oddone ran a personal best in 5,000-meter in 14 minutes, 1 second marking the second best WT time.
Elise Leveel ran her personal best in the 10,000-meter in 35 minutes, 1 second.
