Big Innings Send the #4 Buffs Home with a Series Split in San Antonio

CANYON, Texas – The #4 Buffaloes plated seven runs in a pair of frames on the way to a 19-1 run-rule victory on Sunday afternoon to salvage a Lone Star Conference series split with the St. Mary's Rattlers at Dickson Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.
 
The Buffs took an early lead in the top of the first inning as Kory Schmidt doubled to the gap in right center with two outs to plate Kyle Micklus, WT added to their lead in the fourth on a Paul Wittmann sacrifice fly to right that scored Schmidt to make it 2-0. St. Mary's answered in the home half of the fourth on a Rudy Solis sacrifice fly to center that plated Ethan Parrish. 
 
The Buffs sent 11 hitters to the plate in the top of the fifth as Dylan Fesperman singled home Micklus with the bases loaded and no outs followed by a Seth Ochoa sac fly to plate Ryan Camacho followed by a Rodric Black RBI single to score Schmidt. WT wasn't done yet as Elijah Batista doubled down the right field line to drive in two followed by a Glenn Noronha two-run single up the middle for the 9-1 lead.
 
WT added to their lead in the top of the sixth as Schmidt scored from third on a wild pitch with no outs followed by a Wittmann RBI single up the middle and a Batista two-run double, the Buffs kept the frame alive with back-to-back RBI singles from Noronha and Micklus with no outs. WT kept the inning going as Zak Bentancourt singled to center with the bases loaded, the Buffs would add to their lead in the seventh on a three-run homerun by Patrick Donovan to right field for the 19-1 advantage.
 
Maddux Hoaglund picked up the win (2-1) for the Buffs, allowing one earned run on four hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts in his 4.0 innings of work.
 
The Buffs close out their regular season home schedule next weekend as they welcome the Chaps of Lubbock Christian to Wilder Park for a four-game LSC series beginning on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. in Canyon.
