#5 Buffs Split Saturday’s LSC Doubleheader with Cameron

CANYON, Texas – The #5 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M split a pair of Lone Star Conference contest on Saturday at Wilder Park, taking the opening game of the day from the Cameron Aggies before dropping the nightcap by a run.
 
Buffs and Aggies conclude their weekend series on Sunday afternoon with first pitch of the finale set for 1:00 p.m. in Canyon.
 
GAME ONE
The Aggies jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning as Wyatt Grant singled to right center with one out to plate Donovan Borg for the 1-0 advantage. The Buffs took the lead in the bottom of the first inning as Ryan Camacho singled up the middle with one out to score Kyle Micklus followed later in the inning by a Dylan Fesperman RBI single to make it 2-1.
 
Cameron responded in the top of the fourth as Elijah Tolsma singled to left with one out to score Drew Durst at 2-2. The Buffs retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth as Zak Betancourt doubled to the gap in right center with two outs to score Josh Zapata followed by a Glenn Noronha RBI single to left and an Elijah Batista two-run triple to right for the 6-2 lead.
 
Reese Miller picked up the win (3-0) for the Buffs, allowing no runs on just one hit with no walks and three strikeouts in his 1.2 innings of relief. Matt Milner registered his best start of the season, striking out 10 during his 5.1 frames with two earned runs allowed on six hits in the no decision.
 
GAME TWO
Cameron took an early lead in the nightcap as Grant doubled down the left field line with two outs to drive in Simpson for the 1-0 lead. WT responded in the home half of the inning as Camacho singled down the right field line to score Paul Wittmann followed by a Kory Schmidt RBI single to left and a Fesperman sac fly to make it 3-1.
 
The Aggies cut into the lead in the second as Borg drew an RBI walk with the bases loaded and one out followed by a Lance Barnett two-run single to right center followed later in the frame by a Grant two-run double off of the right field wall for the 6-3 lead.
 
WT responded in the home half of the third as Zapata singled thru the left side with two outs to score Schmidt to make it 6-4. CU added to their lead in the top of the fourth as Gabe Clyden scored from third on an errant WT throw at 7-4.
 
The Buffs answered in the bottom half of the frame as Micklus singled to left field with one out to score Wittmann. WT cut into the lead again in the home half of the fifth as Zapata drove in his second run of the game with a sac fly to center that scored Fesperman to make it 7-6.
 
Cameron added to their lead in the top of the sixth inning as Simpson doubled to right field with one out to drive in a pair for the 9-6 lead. WT made things interesting in the bottom of the frame as Batista reached third on an error to start the inning followed by a Wittmann RBI groundout, Schmidt would drive in Micklus with an RBI groundout to make it 9-8.
 
Nick Yeager picked up the loss (1-1) for the Buffs, allowing four earned runs on one hit with four walks and two strikeouts in his 1.1 innings of work.
