#5 West Texas A&M Takes the Series Opener Over Cameron, 10-2

CANYON, Texas – The #5 Buffaloes plated 10 unanswered runs on Friday afternoon to take the first game of a Lone Star Conference weekend series from the Cameron Aggies, 10-2 at Wilder Park in Canyon, Texas.
 
The Aggies got on the board in the top of the first inning on a Wyatt Grant RBI double to left field with two outs that plated Donovan Borg followed by a WT fielding miscue that scored Grant to make it 2-0. WT responded in the home half as Ryan Camacho grounded out to short as Paul Wittmann scored from third.
 
The Buffs jumped out to their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second inning as a Cameron error with two outs plated a pair of runs followed by a Camacho RBI single up the middle that scored Kyle Micklus for the 4-2 lead. WT added to their lead in the fourth as Paul Wittmann scored from third on a wild pitch with two outs to make it 5-2.
 
WT added to their lead in the bottom of the seventh as Dylan Fesperman tripled off of the right field wall with two outs to drive in Kyle Micklus followed by a Rodric Black RBI single thru the left side, the Buffs weren't done yet as Landon Gaber kept the inning alive with a two-run single up the middle to score Black and Glenn Noronha for the 9-2 lead.
 
The Buffs added an insurance run in the eighth on a Schmidt RBI single up the middle with one out to score Micklus to make it 10-2.
 
Nick Marshall picked up the win (2-2) for the Buffs, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts in his 7.0 innings of work. Justice Hayes tossed the final two frames for the Buffs, allowing just one hit with a strikeout.
 
The Buffs and Aggies continue their LSC series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch of a doubleheader set for 2:00 p.m. in Canyon.
