#19 Buffaloes Split Saturday’s Doubleheader with St. Edward’s

CANYON, Texas – The #19 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M clinched at-worst a split in the Lone Star Conference weekend series with the St. Edward's Hilltoppers in Saturday's early game with a walkoff single by Kyle Micklus before dropping the nightcap at Wilder Park in Canyon.

The Buffs and Hilltoppers close out the weekend series on Sunday afternoon with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m. at Wilder Park.

GAME ONE
The first game of the day saw a pitcher's duel between Matt Milner and former Buff Brennan Berdon as the first run of the game didn't come until the home half of the fifth inning. Paul Wittmann started the frame with a double down the right field line and advanced to third on an error followed by a Glenn Noronha RBI groundout for the 1-0 lead.

The Hilltoppers answered in the top of the sixth as a leadoff walk to Davis Drewek was followed later in the frame by a sacrifice bunt and a sac fly to center by Ty Murray to make it 1-1. The Buffs registered their second walkoff hit of the season in the bottom of the seventh as Rodric Black reached and moved into scoring position on an SEU error followed by a Micklus single thru the right side to plate Black for the 2-1 win.

Douglas Rojas picked up the win (2-0) for the Buffs, allowing no runs on no hits with a walk and a pair of strikeouts in his one inning of relief.

GAME TWO
St. Edward's got on the board first in the nightcap in the top of the second as a pair of WT errors plated Matt Johnson followed by a Diego Solis RBI double to left, SEU wasn't done yet as another Buffalo fielding error scored Solis with two outs for the 3-0 lead.

The Hilltoppers took advantage of two more WT defensive miscues in the third as Matt Johnson singled up the middle with one out to plate Connor Cox followed later in the frame by a two-run single from Drewek and an RBI single thru the left side by Murray to make it 7-0.

SEU added to their lead in the top of the fifth as Solis lifted a sac fly to left with one out to score Trevor Sebek for the 8-0 lead. The Hilltoppers extended their lead in the seventh as Murray singled to right with one out to plate Drewek followed by a Kyler Kerlin RBI fielder's choice groundout to make it 10-0.

Maddux Hoaglund picked up the loss (0-1) for the Buffs, allowing seven unearned runs on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts in his 3.0 innings of work.
