CANYON, TX – The West Texas A&M No. 2 Buffs add two more broken WT records and four more personal bests while competing at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Massachusetts and the Jarvis Scott Open in Lubbock, Texas on Saturday, February 10.
Across the two day meets, the Buffs had 13 total personal bests and broke three West Texas A&M school records.
JARVIS SCOTT OPEN
Luke Holcombe broke his top record in the shot put throwing 17.87m and placing fourth out of 23 competitors including beating athletes from Arizona, Texas Tech, Northwestern State and Abilene Christian.
Hamdi Ali took first in the high jump hitting a season best 2.20m (7' 2.5"). He was .01m from his personal best height while he jumped four perfect clears in the event. Ali took first over competitors from Texas State, North Texas and UT-Arlington. He has the top jump in WT history and adds this effort as the second best and his 7
th record to add to WT in his junior season.
WT had a few distance runners in Lubbock with all three claiming personal best times in the one mile race.
Adrian Legarreta,
Calvin Allen and
Noah Watt finshed 1-3 in their heat with each claiming their best times. Legarreta ran in 4 minutes, 15.6 seconds, Allen in 4 minutes, 18.9 seconds and Watt in 4 minutes, 20.4 seconds.
DAVID HEMERY VALENTINE INVITATIONAL
William Amponsah,
Enrico Oddone and
Harry Louradour all ran their personal bests in the 5,000-meter with Amponsah claiming the top time in WT history running in 13 minutes, 40.1 seconds. Oddone broke the 14-minute barrier running in 13 minutes, 57.8 seconds with Louradour hitting the 14 minute mark exactly.
All three claimed first, third and fourth fastest times in WT history in the event.
Aziz Mohammed and
Prince Mcabelo ran the 800-meter placing 41
st (Mcabelo, 1:50.65) and 66
th (Mohammed, 1:52.22) out of 265 competitors.

WT will send select student-athletes to the Steve Miller Meet in Manhatten, Kansas to better their times and distances before competing in the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships held on February 23-24.
