CANYON. Texas – The #6 Lady Buffs close out their regular season schedule this weekend as they welcome Midwestern State and Texas Woman's to the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" for Senior Weekend. Friday night's matchup against the Mustangs begins at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Saturday showdown with the Pioneers at 2:00 p.m.
STORYLINES
- West Texas A&M continues the defense of their Lone Star Conference Championships during the final weekend of the regular season as they are the lone unbeaten team atop of the league standings
- The Lady Buffs remained sixth in the newest edition of the AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top-25 Poll announced on Monday afternoon
- WT ranks 6th in the nation in attack percentage (.277), 28th in kills per set (13.80), 31st in assists per set (12.64) and 37th in blocks per set (2.28). Taytum Stow is 28th in the nation in blocks per set (1.22) while sitting 36th in total blocks (104).
- The Lady Buffs are currently on a 15-match win streak dating back to a September 20th loss to Angelo State in Dallas in four sets. Since that match, the Lady Buffs have dropped just three of 48 sets played with 12 matches going the minimum of three sets.
- The 15 consecutive wins is the eighth longest active streak in Division II Volleyball: Ferris State (26), Point Loma (21), Spring Hill (19), St. Cloud State (19), Cal Poly Pomona (18), West Florida (18) and Wingate (16)
MIDWESTERN STATE
The Mustangs enter the weekend with an overall record of 14-13 with a 6-8 mark in league action as they topped Texas Woman's in four sets last Saturday afternoon in Denton.
Riley Rabedeaux leads the way offensively for the Mustangs as the senior from Poulsbo, Washington has 294 kills (3.20/set) on 853 swings with 93 attack errors to hit .236 on the season.
Stephanie Radecki is in her third season at the helm of the Midwestern State volleyball program, being named the 10th head coach in program history in April of 2022. She came to MSU following four seasons as the head coach at Southern Mississippi.
Friday night will be the 44th all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Lady Buffs and Mustangs as WT holds a 42-1 advantage in the series that dates back to 1980. Midwestern State is 0-20 all-time in Canyon with their last trip to the Panhandle coming in 2023.
TEXAS WOMAN'S
The Pioneers are 18-7 overall with a 11-3 mark in LSC play following a four-set loss at the hands of Midwestern State last Saturday afternoon in Denton. TWU is ranked fifth in the initial South Central Regional Rankings.
Tori Woods leads the way offensively as the junior from Brookston, Indiana has 275 kills (3.27/set) on 796 swings with 110 attack errors for an attack percentage of .207.
Jessica Ransom is in her first season at the head coach of the TWU volleyball program, spending the previous six seasons leading the Texas Wesleyan Rams. Texas Wesleyan qualified for the NAIA Tournament in six straight seasons as Ransom was named the 2023 Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.
Saturday afternoon will be the 61st meeting on the court between the Lady Buffs and Pioneers as WT is 52-8 in a series that dates back to 1980. Texas Woman's is 2-27 all-time in Canyon as they have dropped their last two trips to The Box.
WELCOME TO THE BOX
West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 21 Lone Star Conference Championships, 16 Regional Titles and four NCAA Division II National Championships.
The Box boasts one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 547-84 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.7%.
LSC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Cavanaugh put together an all-round game as West Texas A&M stretched its win streak to 15 matches with road victories at Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The freshman outside hitter registered 23 kills on 45 swings with five attack errors to hit .400 on the weekend, adding five blocks, 24 digs, and an assist and ace for 26.5 points (3.79 per set). She opened with 12 kills and 25 digs vs. TAMIU for her seventh double-double of the year followed by an 11 kill and nine dig night vs. TAMUK.
LSC NEWS & NOTES
The top six teams in the standings play at least once against each other in the last two games League-leading West Texas A&M has Texas Woman's (T-4th) on Saturday after a Friday game against Midwestern State (10th) who is fighting for a postseason spot. A key travel partner weekend involves fourth place DBU and second place UT Tyler who are making Friday-Saturday stops at second place Angelo State and sixth place Lubbock Christian. Seventh place Oklahoma Christian hosts one of the two teams right behind them in the standings, UT Permian Basin who is tied with St. Mary's at eighth. A trio of teams – MSU, Texas A&M-Kingsville (T-11th) and Texas A&M International (T-11th) – are eyeing wins to stay in the mix.
A NEW ERA
For the first time since the 2019 season, the Lady Buffs are under the guidance of a new head coach as
Brittany Harry was named the 16th leader of WT Volleyball on March 19, 2024.
Harry, the 2022 Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, has been the head coach at Texas A&M International for the past four seasons, serving as the architect behind the growth of the TAMIU program. In 2022, Harry set a program record with 23 victories to lead the Dustdevils into the LSC postseason for the second time in school history. She led her team to the best turnaround in all of NCAA Division II volleyball with a +18 win differential from 2021 to 2022.
LADY BUFFS IN THE AVCA POLL
The Lady Buffs are ranked sixth in this week's edition of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top-25 Poll. It marks the 313th time since 1986 that the Lady Buffs appear in the poll, the sixth most in Division II history. WT has sat atop of the poll 28 different times.
