CANYON. Texas – The Buffs make the long trip to Kingsville, Texas on Saturday night as they battle the Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville in Lone Star Conference action with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. at Javelina Stadium.
 
UTPB RECAP
The Buffaloes were doomed by big plays on Saturday night as they fell to the UT Permian Basin Falcons, 21-7 in Lone Star Conference action in front of over 6,000 fans at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium in Canyon.
 
LSC NEWS & NOTES
Eastern New Mexico, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Angelo State, UT Permian Basin and No. 20 Central Washington all earned victories in Week 8 of Lone Star Conference football.
 
ASU (6-2 overall) extended its winning streak to six games and is now alone atop the LSC standings at 6-0. Western Oregon, who lost to TAMUK 21-14, and CWU are each 5-1.
 
ASU, CWU and WOU are all under consideration in the first Super Region Four NCAA Division II Regional Rankings, which were released Monday afternoon (Oct. 28).
 
WEEK 9 MATCHUPS
Week 9 will see four Lone Star Conference matchups with UT Permian Basin and Western New Mexico having a bye. Central Washington travels to San Angelo for a battle atop of the league standings with Angelo State while Sul Ross State, Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Kingsville also host games.
 
A LOOK AT THE JAVELINAS
The Javelinas enter the weekend with an overall record of 5-3 with a 4-2 mark in LSC action following a 21-14 victory over Western Oregon last Saturday in Monmouth.
 
TAMUK registered 310 yards of total offense against the Wolves with 276 of them coming thru the air. The Javelinas forced four turnovers on Saturday as they held WOU to 172 yards on the ground with just 3.4 per carry. Jalen Brown completed 16-of-18 passes with a pair of touchdowns during his first start of the year.
 
Roger Hagan leads the way offensively for the Javelinas as the senior running back from Houston has 677 yards on 151 carries with five scores. Jackson Allen has caught 24 passes for a team-best 295 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, TAMUK is led by Travis Bielefeld who has 36 tackles (26 solo) with four hurries and a forced fumble.
 
TAMUK HEAD COACH MIKE SALINAS
Mike Salinas is in his fourth season at the helm of his alma mater, being introduced as 12th head coach in program history on December 20, 2019. He holds an overall record of 24-18 during his time in Kingsville.
 
He was a three-year letterwinner for the Javelinas from 1995-99 where TAMUK won three LSC Championships and two West Region Titles. Salinas is no stranger to the Maroon & White as he served as the Defensive Coordinator at WT during the 2005 season.
 
THE SERIES
The Javelinas lead the all-time series against the Buffs, 20-17-1. WT has won nine of the last 13 meetings, the Javelinas snapped a three-game losing streak in the series in 2022 as they have topped the Buffs each of the last two seasons. The Buffs are 8-10-1 all-time in Kingsville as they travel to South Texas for the second straight campaign.
 
HEAD COACH JOSH LYNN
Josh Lynn is now in his second season at the helm of the West Texas A&M Football program after being named the 29th head coach in WT history.
 
Lynn is no stranger to the Wagon Wheel rivalry as he won a pair of games against the Buffs during his time as a tight end at ENMU (1999, 2000) followed by two wins as the head coach in Portales (2013, 2014).
 
Lynn, widely regarded as one of the nation's up-and-coming head coaches, came to Canyon following six seasons at the University of Nebraska-Kearney where he led the Lopers to an overall record of 35-25 including a run to the Second Round of the 2021 NCAA Division II Playoffs. Lynn coached 61 all-conference selections during his time in Kearney while being named the MIAA Coach of the Year in 2021.
 
WT FOOTBALL WEEKLY REPORT
West Texas A&M Athletics has partnered with Panhandle Sports Star 1029 FM ESPN along with The Lumberyard to present the West Texas A&M Football Weekly Report.
 
Host Lucas Kinsey will be joined by Josh Lynn along with student-athletes and assistant coaches in the one-hour show. The show, presented by The Lumberyard, will take place at Feldman's Wrong Way Diner (2100 N 2nd Ave.)
 
LIVE COVERAGE
Saturday's contest will be broadcasted on FloSports. The LSC and FloSports reached a historic agreement in August for the largest streaming rights deal in NCAA Division II history.

West Texas A&M is home to one of the most successful athletic programs in all of NCAA Division II.
 
The Buffs and Lady Buffs finished third in the 2023-24 Division II LEARFIELD Director's Cup standings. It marked the sixth straight and eighth overall time that WT finished inside of the Top-10 including the fifth straight inside of the Top-5.
