CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs return to the friendly confines of the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" for Lone Star Conference action this weekend as they host #14 Angelo State on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Saturday showdown with Lubbock Christian with first serve set for 2:00 p.m.
WHITE OUT
Friday night's rivalry showdown with Angelo State is a White Out at The Box, members of Buff Nation are encouraged to wear white to cheer on the Lady Buffs.
STORYLINES
  - For the first time since the 2019 season, the Lady Buffs are under the guidance of a new head coach as Brittany Harry was named the 16th leader of WT Volleyball on March 19, 2024.
  - West Texas A&M continues the defense of their Lone Star Conference Championships this weekend as they host #14 Angelo State and Lubbock Christian at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box"
  - The Lady Buffs are tied for ninth in the newest edition of the AVCA/TERAFLEX Division II Top-25 Poll announced on Monday afternoon
  - The first four weekends of the season saw the Lady Buffs battle eight Top-25 opponents with a pair of them ranking inside of the Top-5
  - The Lady Buffs have registered an attack percentage of .252 so far this season which ranks 22nd in all of DII Volleyball. Taytum Stow is 35th nationally with 55 blocks while Bryli Contreras ranks 56th with 213 digs
  - League play continues this week with WT, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas A&M International, St. Mary's, Midwestern State, St. Edward's, Eastern New Mexico, Texas Woman's and UT Tyler hosting matches
ANGELO STATE
The #14 Belles enter Friday on an 11-match winning streak following LSC victories over Midwestern State and Texas Woman's last weekend on the road to open league action. Saturday afternoon saw the Belles overcome an 0-2 deficit in Denton to pick up a five-set victory over the Pioneers.Â
Angelo State went 24-8 last season including a 12-4 mark in Lone Star Conference play, the Belles advanced to the South Central Regional Semifinals with a five-set win over Regis before falling to MSU Denver in four sets in Canyon.Â

Chuck Waddington is now in his 17th season at the helm of the ASU volleyball program, holding an overall record of 390-183 during his time in San Angelo with 11 NCAA Tournament Trips including a South Central Regional Championship in 2016 as he has won four LSC Coach of the Year honors (2012, 2016, 2019, 2021).

The Lady Buffs and Belles renew one of the top rivalries in Division II volleyball on Friday night, marking the 94th all-time meeting in a series that dates back to 1980. WT is 64-29 against Angelo State with the Belles taking the previous meeting back on September 20 during the LSC Crossover in Dallas.

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN
The Lady Chaps enter the weekend with an overall record of 5-7 with a 1-1 mark in Lone Star Conference action. LCU dropped a four-set matchup at Texas Woman's on Friday night to open league action before responding with a four-set win at Midwestern State on Saturday in Wichita Falls.

Lubbock Christian finished the 2023 campaign with an overall mark of 17-9 including a 9-7 record during LSC play. The Lady Chaps were 6-3 on the road last season including a straight set loss to the Lady Buffs on October 25..

Keith Giboney is now in his fourth season at the helm of the LCU volleyball program, being named the school's seventh head coach in 2021. He holds an overall record of 52-39 in Lubbock to go along with a career mark of 437-211 over 19 seasons with head coaching stops at Alabama-Huntsville and Harding.

Saturday afternoon will be the 44th all-time meeting between the Lady Buffs and Lady Chaps as WT holds a 34-8-1 lead in the series that dates back to 1980. Lubbock Christian is 4-18 all-time at the WTAMU Fieldhouse, dropping their last nine matches in Canyon dating back to 2010.

West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 21 Lone Star Conference Championships, 16 Regional Titles and four NCAA Division II National Championships.Â

The Box boasts one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 544-84 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.7%.

The Lady Buffs claimed 23 of the possible 41 first place votes to sit atop of the poll with 674 points followed by DBU (15 first place, 665), Angelo State (two first place, 610), Texas A&M-Kingsville (one first place, 562), UT Tyler (536), Texas Woman's (481), Lubbock Christian (430), Texas A&M International (418), St. Mary's (349), UT Permian Basin (349), Oklahoma Christian (299), St. Edward's (249), Cameron (168), Eastern New Mexico (158), Western New Mexico (140), Midwestern State (130) and Sul Ross State (55).

LSC PRESEASON DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Junior middle blocker
Taytum Stow was named the 2024 Lone Star Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year announced on Monday, August 25th. The Hereford product Led the Lady Buffs to the Division II National Title Match in 2023, appearing in 133 sets during 37 matches. She averaged 1.68 kills per set and had a total of 223 kills for the season, earning a .334 hitting percentage.  Stow was named an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American for the second time in her career.

A NEW ERA BEGINS

Harry, the 2022 Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, has been the head coach at Texas A&M International for the past four seasons, serving as the architect behind the growth of the TAMIU program. In 2022, Harry set a program record with 23 victories to lead the Dustdevils into the Lone Star Conference postseason for the second time in school history. She led her team to the best turnaround in all of NCAA Division II volleyball with a +18 win differential from 2021 to 2022.

LADY BUFFS IN THE AVCA POLL
The Lady Buffs are ranked tied for ninth in this week's edition of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top-25 Poll. It marks the 306th time since 1986 that the Lady Buffs appear in the poll, the sixth most in Division II history. WT has sat atop of the poll 28 different times including twice during the 2023 campaign.

NEW LOOK LSC
The LSC opens its 42nd season of volleyball with a new member among the 17 teams – Sul Ross State – with schedules opening the September 5-7 weekend. The Lone Star Conference Tournament is slated November 21-23 hosted by the No. 1 seeded team. NCAA Division II Championship play begins with regionals December 5-8 and the final rounds December 12-14 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
