CANYON, Texas – Former West Texas A&M men's basketball player
Julius Brown signed a professional contract with BK Iskra Svit in the Slovakian Basketball League. Brown, the 2023 Lone Star Conference Player of the Year, will join the team on a one-year contract.
"My time at WT has prepared me for my professional career by always playing against top notch competition and having great coaches," stated Julius. "Playing in games against high level competition prepares your mind and body to have the confidence to be able to play against guys at the pro level."
The Westerville, Ohio product played two seasons for the Buffs while helping WT to an 56-14 overall record including the program's sixth-consecutive Lone Star Conference tournament title and an appearance in the 2023 South Central Regional championship game.
Brown made appearances in 65 games with 65 career starts with 1,054 total points. He brought down 212 rebounds for WT with 54 coming on offense to go along with 108 steals and 227 assists. Brown reached double-figure scoring 33 times during his career including career-high 34 against Angelo State. Last season, he reached the 30-point mark on three different occasions.
"The time spent at WT means the world to me," added Julius. "If I never went to WT, I'm not sure I would be a professional. With God and the belief/confidence the coaches and community had in me on and off the court allowed me to be the player/person I needed to be to become a professional. I will always be thankful for WT."
BK Iskra Svit will start the regular season on Sept. 23 and play through April 4 with playoffs to follow.
