CANYON, TX – West Texas A&M Lady Buffs sweep the Texas A&M International Dust Devils in their first contest with a Lone Star Conference team at the LSC Crossover.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Buffs finished the series in three sets (25-11, 26-24, 25-15). All three sets started out tied until 4-4 when either the Lady Buffs or Dust Devils took a lead. The largest lead came in the second set for the Dust Devils as they had the upper hand on the Lady Buffs at 19-24. The Lady Buffs went on an 8-0 run to eventually win the set. A back-to-back block by Torrey Miller and Sharlotte McClintock and Camy Jones kept the momentum on the Lady Buffs side going into the third set.
The Lady Buffs, 18 out of 21, players saw action on the night and at one point in the second set three freshmen, Sharlotte McClintock, Rylie Barnett and Haylee Hurtado, were on the floor at the same time with two returners, Ainsley Malis and Bryli Contreras, and transfer, Brynne Wright. The depth presented by the Lady Buffs played a pivotal role in the sweep over the Dust Devils with 14 players contributing points in the match.
Sophomore Emma Becker led the way for the Lady Buffs with nine kills on 14 attempts with one error hitting a .571 clip. Carly Evetts paced the blockers with four stuffs, while Bryli Contreras led with 10 digs. Blair Moreland had 15 assists and Torrey Miller contributed with four aces.
