West Texas A&M Drops the Series Finale at Oklahoma Christian

CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes snapped a seven-game win streak on Saturday afternoon as they dropped the Lone Star Conference series finale to the Oklahoma Christian Eagles at Dobson Field in Edmond, Oklahoma.
 
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning as Chance Westervelt beat out an infield RBI single to short with two outs to drive in Jayvien Joseph for the 1-0 advantage. The Buffs responded in the top of the third inning as Mike Manetta singled to short to drive in Dylan Fesperman to make it 1-1.
 
OC retook the lead in the home half of the fifth as Blake Empkey singled up the middle with two outs to drive in a pair followed by a Marcus Johnson single to left for the 4-2 lead. WT answered in the top of the sixth as Eddy Savoie lifted a sac fly to center field with no outs to plate Adam Becker to cut the lead to 4-3.
 
The Buffs took their first lead of the game in the eighth as Fesperman drew an RBI walk with the bases loaded to plate Kory Schmidt followed later in the frame by a wild pitch that would score Will Fuenning and Glenn Noronha for the 5-4 lead.
 
The Eagles answered in the home half of the eight as Aaron Hunter drove in Empkey with a sac fly to right followed by a Grant Lake RBI double and an Ethan Box RBI single to make it 7-5.
 
Douglas Rojas picked up the loss (0-3) on the mound for the Buffs, allowing three earned runs on two hits with one walk and two strikeouts in his 3.0 innings of work.
 
The Buffs return to Wilder Park next weekend as they host the St. Mary's Rattlers in a four-game LSC series starting on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. in Canyon.
