Buffs Drop the Regular Season Finale on Senior Day, 10-7

CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M took an early lead but a big third inning by the #2 Angelo State Rams was the deciding factor on Sunday afternoon as the Buffs dropped the regular season finale in Lone Star Conference action at Wilder Park.

The Buffs jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning as Eddy Savoie drew a walk with the bases loaded and two outs followed by a Dylan Fesperman RBI single thru the left side for the 2-0 lead. WT added to their lead in the bottom of the second as Kory Schmidt singled to left with the bases loaded and two outs to drive in Kix Ferrel and Mike Manetta for the 4-0 lead.

ASU cut into the lead in the top of the third as Austin Beck doubled off of the left field wall to score Jacob Guerrero with one out followed by a Jordan Williams RBI single to right, the Rams weren't done yet as Tripp Clark would score from third on a wild pitch followed by a Jackson Hardy two-run double down the left field line and a pair of WT errors with two outs to make it 8-4.

WT responded in the home half of the third as Manetta reached on a fielder's choice groundout to score Fesperman to make it 8-5. The Buffs cut into the lead again in the fifth as Ferrel grounded out to shortstop with one out to plate Savoie to make it 8-6.

The Rams added to their lead in the top of the seventh as Thomas Cain grounded out to second base with one out as Kamden Kelton scored followed by a Jacob Guerrero solo homerun off of the scoreboard in left for the 10-6 lead.

WT wouldn't go down without a fight as they cut into the lead again in the home half of the eight on a Becker sac fly to left that plated Manetta to make it 10-7.

Mason Caperton picked up the loss (2.1) on the mound for the Buffs, allowing five earned runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in his 2.1 innings of work.

The Buffs begin the postseason as the fifth seed in the Lone Star Conference Championships as they travel to Lubbock, Texas for a best-of-three series with the Lubbock Christian Chaps starting on Friday at a time to be determined.
