CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes left Lubbock empty handed on Sunday afternoon as they dropped a 13-6 decision in the Lone Star Conference series finale as the Lubbock Christian Chaps completed the sweep at Hays Field.

The Chaps got on the board in the home half of the first inning as Eduardo Acosta singled thru the left side with no outs to plate Carson Ogilvie followed by RBI groundouts from Nate Van Maanen and Jarred Gibson for the early 3-0 lead.

WT responded in the top of the second inning as
Will Fuenning would score from third on an errant throw by the Chaps with two outs to make it 3-1. LCU broke the game open in the home half of the second as Caden Hensley drove in a pair with a single up the middle followed by an Acosta RBI infield single and balk that scored Acosta for the 8-3 lead.Â

The Buffs cut into the lead in the top of the third as
Eddy Savoie drew an RBI walk with the bases loaded and two outs. LCU responded in the bottom of the third as Acosta drove in his second run of the game, this time with an RBI single to left that scored Hensley to make it 9-2.

LCU added to their lead in the home half of the fifth as Ogilvie doubled down the left field line to drive in Hensley followed by an Acosta RBI single up the middle and a Van Maanen RBI single to left for the 12-2 lead. WT showed some life in the top of the sixth inning as
Adam Becker connected on his 36
th career long ball, a grand slam to left center to cut the LCU lead to 12-6.

The Chaps added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth as Ogilvie singled up the middle with two outs to drive in Sam Shank for the 13-6 lead.

Mason Caperton picked up the loss (1-1) for the Buffs, allowing three earned runs on two hits with one walk and no strikeouts in his 1.0 innings of work.

The Buffs close out the regular season next weekend in Canyon as they host the #2 Rams of Angelo State in a four-game Lone Star Conference series beginning on Friday night with first pitch set for 6:00 p.m.
