CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M took a three-run lead to the bottom of the ninth and a one-run lead to the bottom of the 10
th on Friday evening but WT couldn't come away with a victory as the Lubbock Christian Chaps connected on back-to-back homeruns with two outs in extras to take a 7-6 win in the LSC series opener at Hays Field.
The Chaps jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning as Eduardo Acosta lifted an RBI double to the warning track in center field with one out to plate Brevin McCool for the 1-0 lead.
The Buffs responded in the top of the second inning as
Will Fuenning reached on an LCU error in the outfield to put a runner on third with no outs,
Eddy Savoie would tie the game with an RBI single to center with two outs to make it 1-1. WT took their first lead of the night in the top of the third as
Bryant Bailey singled to first base with the bases loaded and two outs followed by a Savoie two-run single thru the left side for the 4-1 lead.
The Chaps responded in the home half of the Hayden Blair lifted a sac fly to left with one out to score Jarred Gibson to make it 4-2. The Buffs added to their lead in the top of the fifth as
Dylan Fesperman lifted a solo shot to right center for the 5-2 lead.
LCU cut into the lead in the home half of the eighth as Chris Shull singled to left center with no outs to plate Nate Van Maanen to knock

Douglas Rojas entered from the WT bullpen as the lefty registered a strikeout and a pair of flyouts to strand a pair in scoring position to keep it 5-3.
The Chaps looked to rally in the ninth as a leadoff walk and an errant pickoff throw moved Carson Ogilvie to third with no outs, a walk put runners on the corners followed by a WT fielding error to plate Ogilvie.
Isaac Keehn forced a fielder's choice groundout as Becker cut down the tying run at the plate followed by a strikeout and a Ryan Ball RBI walk with the bases loaded to make it 5-5.
The 10
th inning saw
Seth Ochoa leadoff the frame with a walk followed two batters later by a
Ryan Johnson double to center field, Becker was intentionally walked followed by a wild pitch to plate Ochoa for the 6-5 lead. The bottom half saw Keehn record a pair of quick outs before McCool tied the game with a solo homerun to left center followed by an Acosta solo bomb to left for the 7-6 walkoff win.
Keehn picked up the loss (3-3) for the Buffs, allowing two earned runs on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts in his 1.2 innings of relief.
The Buffs and Chaps resume their series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch of a doubleheader set for 2:00 p.m. at Hays Field.
