CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M's Kory Schmidt has been honored for his efforts on the diamond as the junior was named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week announced on Tuesday by the league's offices in Richardson, Texas.
 
Schmidt had a big weekend at the plate for the Buffs they took three-of-four games from the UT Permian Basin Falcons at Wilder Park in Canyon during Lone Star Conference action.
 
The junior from Liberty Hill, Texas hit .588 on the weekend with one double, one triple and two homeruns to drive in seven RBI for 19 total bases to register a slugging percentage of 1.118. Friday's series opener saw Schmidt go 4-for-4 at the dish with a double to drive in a pair followed by homeruns in game three and game four of the series. Schmidt had multi-hits in all four games and extra base hits in all but one.
 
The Buffs hit the road for LSC action this weekend as they travel to Tyler, Texas for a four-game series against the UT Tyler Patriots beginning on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at Irwin Field.
