Buffs Take Two from Cameron on Saturday, Clinch the LSC Series

CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes ran their win streak to four games on Saturday afternoon as they picked up a pair of Lone Star Conference victories over the Cameron Aggies at McCord Field in Lawton, Oklahoma.

The Buffs look for the series sweep tomorrow afternoon as first pitch of the series finale is set for 1:00 p.m. at McCord Field.

GAME ONE
The Aggies got on the board in the home half of the first inning as Beau Williams singled thru the right side with one out to plate Trent Mallonee for the 1-0 advantage. WT responded in the top of the second as Kory Schmidt scored from third on a passed ball followed by a Mike Manetta RBI single and an Adam Becker three-run homerun to left to make it 5-1.

Cameron cut into the lead in the bottom of the frame as Spencer Simpson singled thru the right side with two outs to plate a pair at 5-3. The Aggies would cut the lead to one in the third on a Jayce Clem RBI single thru the right side to plate Lance Barnett to make it 5-4.

The Buffs would add to their lead in the top of the fourth as Eddy Savoie grounded into an RBI fielder's choice to plate Manetta at 6-4. The Aggies cut into the lead again in the bottom of the fourth as Williams scored Zach DeLong on an RBI bunt single to make it 6-5.

WT would add a pair of insurance runs in the sixth as Becker singled up the middle with no outs to drive in Manetta followed later in the frame by a Schmidt RBI single to center to make it 8-5. The Aggies would answer again as Riley Hines led off the bottom of the frame with a solo homerun followed by a Barnett RBI double, making it 8-7.

Gavin Pringle picked up the win (6-0) for the Buffs, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts in his 2.0 innings of work. Reese Miller picked up his second save of the season, striking out five Aggies over the last three frames.

GAME TWO
The nightcap saw the Buffs jump out to an early lead as Dylan Fesperman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs to plate Ryan Johnson followed by a Bryant Bailey RBI walk and a Dave Janssen two-run single to left for the 4-0 lead.

The Aggies responded in the bottom of the frame as Williams singled to right to plate Mallonee with one out to make it 4-1. Cameron cut into the lead again in the fourth as Kody Bigford reached on a fielder's choice RBI to score Colby Flood followed by a Mallonee two-run single thru the right side to tie the game at 4-4.

The Buffs would take the lead for good in the top of the seventh inning as Cameron Loy pinch-hit and singled up the middle with one out to score Savoie followed by a two-run single by Ryan Johnson for the 7-4 lead. That lead was all that Tyler Cornett needed as the former Aggie struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh for his fifth save of the season.

Justice Hayes picked up the win (1-0) for the Buffs, allowing no runs on no hits with no walks and two strikeouts in his two flawless innings of relief.
