CANYON, TX- The West Texas A&M #6 Buffs and #12 Lady Buffs Cross Country teams move forward in the national rankings of the Top-30 USTFCCCA poll for the fifth week in a row. The #6 Buffs are now one spot shy of the Top-5 in the nation while the #12 Lady Buffs made a leap of 15 spots to break into the Top-15 in the nation.
After a stellar performance at the stacked Live in Lou Classic in Louisville, KY this past weekend, the #6 Buffs and #12 Lady Buffs are getting recognized as a Top-15 program in the nation.
The Buffs finished 4
th as a team at the Live in Lou Classic and had the men's 8k Gold division individual winner in junior,
William Amponsah. The USTFCCCA recognized Amponsah this week as the National Division II Athlete of the Week after posting a 23:08.6 finish making his effort the the fastest Lone Star Conference time this season.
The Lady Buffs finished in 10
th place as a team out of 35 teams, beating out NCAA Division I schools such as Clemson, University of Central Florida and Rice. Freshman,
Sarah Koomson, finished 3
rd individually and kept in pace with leading the Lady Buffs followed by senior
Eleonora Curtabbi who finished 10
th in her first competitive race of the season.
The accolades kept coming in for WT as Amponsah, Koomson and Curtabbi swept the Lone Star Conference Runners of the Week awards as well.
COMING UP
The #6 Buffs and #12 Lady Buffs are preparing for the LSC Championships held later this month on Oct. 21 in Portales, NM. The race will be hosted by Eastern New Mexico University.
