#5 Lady Buffs Travel Out of State for LSC Match

CANYON, TX- The No. 5 nationally ranked Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M (21-2, 10-1 LSC) will travel out of state to take on Eastern New Mexico (9-17, 0-12 LSC) in Portales, N. M. on Saturday afternoon at the Greyhound Arena at 3 p.m.
 

LIVE COVERAGE

A paid-for live stream and free stats will be provided by the WT Athletic Communications department. All LSC matches will be aired on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network. 

Fans can purchase a daily pass for $15, a monthly game pass for $30 or a yearly pass for $140. Any pass purchased will give fans the opportunity to watch any LSC game across any sport including volleyball matches. Fans can purchase their pass at lonestarconferencenetwork.com.

Fans attending the match will receive free entry at Greyhound Arena.
 

IN THE POLLS

The #5 Lady Buffs are the only LSC program represented in the national standings and have been in the top five in the nation for the past eight weeks. Angelo State is the only other LSC team receiving votes while three RMAC teams are ranked with MSU Denver (7th), Colorado Mesa (11th) and Regis (12th). 

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION

EASTERN NEW MEXICO (Oct. 28 | 3 PM) 

The Greyhounds are led by tenth year head coach Sia Poyer. 

Eastern New Mexico picked up a 3-0 sweep in their last match, facing Southwest (N.M.) on Monday evening. With the win, ENMU shifts to 9-17 with a 0-12 conference record.

The Greyhounds offense averages 11.7 kills per set (a/s) with 10.9 assists per set (a/s). On the other side of the ball, the Greyhounds defense hold opponents to a .159 hitting percentage (4th in the conference). 

Additionally, the Hounds are 5th in the conference for blocks (2.25 blocks per set) and supply 16.5 digs per set (d/s).

Mikaela Garvin leads Greyhounds attack with 3.52 k/s (4th best in the LSC). Gracelyn Stubbs provides 2.42 k/s and 4.57 a/s (2nd best in both categories for the Greyhounds). Kayla Ison leads the Greyhounds with 4.70 a/s. Leading the conference in digs, Getsemani Carrasco provides 5.56 d/s. For blocks, Stubbs averages over 1.04 b/s, while Deziree Flowers adds 0.99 b/s.


LAST TIME OUT

The Lady Buffs are coming off of a winning weekend where they handed UA-Fort Smith their first Lone Star Conference loss of the season. The Lady Buffs had a back-to-back turnaround against Oklahoma Christian where they won in four sets. The Eagles were eight points ahead of the Lady Buffs in the third set when WT came within two to be defeated 23-25. 

The mid-week match-up vs Lubbock Christian saw the Lady Buffs dominate on their home BrtiKare court. The sweep added the tenth consecutive conference win for the Lady Buffs.


AROUND THE LONE STAR

The Lady Buffs are the only team in first due to one extra match played this week with a record of 10-1. Angelo State sits right behind in second with a 9-1 record with their only loss coming from the Lady Buffs. DBU, UAFS and Texas A&M Kingsville round out the top five in the Lone Star conference.  


WT HEAD COACH KENDRA POTTS

Kendra Potts begins her fifth season at the helm of Lady Buff Volleyball with an overall 112-22 (.836) record and 63-11 (.848) in league play.  Potts led her alma mater to the program's 4th NCAA National Championship after capturing the South Central Regional title to become the sixth head coach in program history to guide WT to the Elite Eight. Coach Potts was named the AVCA Division II National Head Coach of the Year following her 33-4 record and 26 game winning streak for the 2022 season.
