CANYON, Texas – The No. 5 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs swept the Lubbock Christian Chaps (25-16, 25-20, 23-21,) tonight in The Box amongst a rowdy hometown crowd. The Box crew had the holiday spirit with many in Halloween costumes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Buffs put a stamp on the first set taking down the Chaps 25-16. WT started with an eight point lead and continued to dominate while reaching 20 points before the Chaps reached 15. The block for the Lady Buffs came alive as there were seven team blocks in the first set with four on those contributions from sophomore middle blocker
Taytum Stow.
The second set saw a fight with the Chaps are they always stayed within five points of the Lady Buffs. A couple of
Torrey Millers kills would guarantee that WT would win the second with ease.
Brynne Wright came in with a clutch block to end the set with
Taytum Stow assisting.
The Lady Buffs started down in the third set at 2-6 with Coach Potts calling her first timeout of the match. The Chaps came out swinging on all cylinders to take a 3-9 lead.
Camy Jones would get two kills while in rotation followed by a block to help the Lady Buffs get back into the set at 10-10. An ace by Miller would force a Chaps timeout as WT went up 11-10. WT and LCU would switch the lead three times in the third set before the Lady Buffs went up 21-19. The last string of points came off of the Chaps hitting errors, followed by a Wright kill and a double block with Wright and Stow.
BY THE NUMBERS
Wright and Miller led offensively with 10 kills a piece with Wright hitting a .409 clip on 22 attempts and only one error.
Ainsley Malis led the offense with 22 assists while
Bryli Contreras put up 11 digs, the only player in the match to put up double-digit digs.
Torrey Miller had three aces in the match. Stow and
Carly Evetts led with 6 blocks a piece on the net.
