CANYON, Texas – The No. 5 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs tamed the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions (25-22, 25-18, 25-22) at home on Friday night causing the Lions first LSC loss this season. Fans in The Box enjoyed a tailgate presented by The Buffalo Club and WT Student Advising before witnessing the three-set match in Canyon, TX. 
West Texas A&M Lady Buffs (8-1) are now tied for first with Angelo State (8-1) for the Lone Star Conference title. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Buffs started down 4-6 in the first set before deciding to tie it up with a 
Brynne Wright kill from the outside. The match would be tied four more times before the Lady Buffs brought out the win at 25-22. The Lady Buffs hit .340 as a team, the highest of the match while holding the Lions to a .273 clip, their highest of the match as well. 
 
The second set left the Lions no chance as the Lady Buffs took an early lead and didn't look back. 
Taytum Stow had the set finishing block and the defense behind the set was what held the lead for the Lady Buffs. The Lions were held to a -0.021 clip with the Lady Buffs pulling out a .257%. 
Emma Becker became unstoppable after the Lions had one block on the opposite hitter. Becker finished out with 12 kills, the second highest on the team. 
 
The third set started like the first with the Lady Buffs starting down 1-3 before coming back to hold onto the lead. 
Emma Patterson had the setters' number as she picked up nearly every setter dump in the back row. Senior 
Carly Evetts came alive at the net with back-to-back blocks including a solo from the middle where Evetts blocked the 6'6" opponent. 
Torrey Miller led the defense in numbers with 
Bryli Contreras picking up the tough cross shots from the Lions pin hitters. The Lady Buffs were forced to call their last timeout at 24-22 as the Lions had gone on a 3-0 run of points. A Becker and Stow block would finish the match.

Torrey Miller led offensively with 15 kills on 32 attempts with 0 errors and led defensively in the back row with 19 digs. 
Ainsley Malis led the offense with 18 assists, with 
Blair Moreland right behind with 17 assists. 
Emma Patterson and Miller had the only aces on the night with one a piece. 
Carly Evetts led with 6 blocks on the front line.
