CANYON, Texas – The #13 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M connected on five of their first eight shot attempts and never looked back on Saturday afternoon as they shot 50% from the floor to pick up an 81-54 Lone Star Conference divisional victory over the UT Permian Basin Falcons in Odessa.
 
Karley Motschenbacher led the way for the Lady Buffs as the sophomore guard went 8-of-10 from the floor including 1-of-1 from behind the arc and 4-for-4 from the free throw line for a game-high 21 points to go along with three boards, two assists and four steals. Azia Himeur connected five times from deep for 15 points while Lauren Taylor finished with nine points as the senior joined the 1,000 career point club in the second quarter.
 
The Lady Buffs finished the afternoon going 27-of-54 (50%) from the floor including 10-of-23 (43.5%) from deep and 17-of-20 (85%) from the free throw line to go along with 37 rebounds (nine offensive, 28 defensive), 14 assists, 16 turnovers, four blocks and 10 steals.
 
Morgan Helgesen paced the UTPB offense as the sophomore from Denton went 4-of-10 from the floor including 4-of-7 from behind the arc and 3-of-3 from the stripe for a team-high 15 points to go along with six boards, two assists and a steal. UTPB went 15-of-54 (27.8%) from the field including 8-of-22 (36.4%) from deep and 16-of-21 (76.2%) from the free throw line with 31 rebounds (13 offensive, 18 defensive), nine assists, 18 turnovers, one block and six steals.
 
The Lady Buffs return to the First United Bank Center on Thursday night as they welcome the Western New Mexico Mustangs to Canyon for LSC action with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m.
