CANYON, Texas – The #15 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M Buffaloes jumped out to an early lead but couldn't hold off the powerful Angelo State offense as the #6 Rams claimed the 2022 Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday evening at Foster Field in San Angelo, Texas.
Â
The Buffs jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning as
Adam Becker continued his historic run at the plate with a two-run shot to left field for his 21st of the year and seventh of the weekend for a 2-0 lead. Angelo State responded with a four spot in the bottom of the second inning highlighted by a Koby Kelton two-run homerun to make it 4-2.
Â
Eddy Savoie cut into the lead in the top of the third with a leadoff solo homerun to left field before the Rams responded again with three more runs heading into a lightning delay. The ASU offense stayed hot after the break as they plated three runs over the next two frames to extend their lead to 10-3. WT cut into the lead in the top of the ninth on a
Mike Manetta RBI fielder's choice groundout.
Â
A.G. Ayala picked up the loss (3-4) for the Buffs, allowing six earned runs on eight hits with two walks and no strikeouts in his 2.1 innings of work.Â
