CANYON, Texas – The #14 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M started off their Lone Star Conference road trip on a high note on Friday night as they handed the #7 Angelo State Rams a 2-0 shutout loss in the series opener at Foster Field in San Angelo, Texas.
The Buffs take sole possession of the lead in the LSC standings and hand the Rams their first shutout loss since May 24, 2019.
The Buffs jumped out to an early lead in the second as
Paul Wittmann beat out an infield single with two outs to drive in
Will Fuenning for the 1-0 lead. WT would add an insurance run in the top of the eight as Fuenning was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Wittmann to make it 2-0.
Nick Marshall was dominant on the mound as the righty from Antigo, Wisconsin allowed no runs on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts over his seven innings of work.
Colton Charnholm tossed one scoreless frame with a pair of strikeouts followed by
Reese Miller claiming his fifth save with two strikeouts in the ninth.
The Buffs and Rams continue the series tomorrow in San Angelo as first pitch of a doubleheader is set for 4 p.m. at Foster Field.
