#5 Buffs Start Fast and Roll in Thursday’s Series Opener, 14-3

CANYON, Texas – The #5 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M scored 13 runs over the first two frames and never looked back as they picked up a run-rule victory in the Lone Star Conference series opener over the Texas A&M International Dustdevils on Thursday night at Wilder Park in Canyon.
 
The Buffs jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning as Adam Becker doubled down the right field line with one out to score Eddy Savoie followed by a Will Fuenning two-run double to right center to make it 3-0.
 
WT added to their lead in the second as Ryan Johnson singled to right center to plate Paul Wittmann, Becker added to his RBI total with a two-run single to center with the bases loaded and one out followed by an Eric Ortiz two-run single to left center to make it 8-0. Nollan Koon added to the lead with an RBI groundout followed by RBI singles from Wittmann and Izaiah Madrid, Johnson kept the inning going with a two-run double to center for the 13-0 lead.
 
The Dustdevils got on the board in the third as Matt Kissamis doubled down the right field line with the bases loaded to drive in two and make it 13-2. The Buffs added to their lead in the home half of the fifth on a Fuenning sac fly to right field to plate Johnson and extend the lead to 14-2. TAMIU cut into the lead in the seventh as Brock Hargen drew an RBI walk with the bases loaded and two outs 
 
Jack Eagan picked up the win (4-2) for the Buffs as the senior lefty allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in his 5.0 innings of work. Ben Crist finished off the contest as the Texico product allowed one run on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts over the final two frames.
 
The Buffs and Dustdevils continue their LSC series tomorrow with doubleheader action set for 4 p.m. at Wilder Park.
