CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M closed out the Bob Sloan Baseball Classic with a big 17-2  win over New Mexico Highlands on Sunday afternoon as the #15 Buffs registered 17 hits at the plate to go along with 16 strikeouts on the mound.

The Buffs jumped out to an early lead in the home half of the first inning as Will Fuenning lifted a sac fly to the wall in right with the bases loaded followed by back-to-back doubles from Eric Ortiz and Mike Manetta for the 4-0 advantage. WT added to their lead in the second as Kennedy Badgett doubled to the left field corner to score Paul Wittmann and Ryan Johnson followed by a Highlands error that plated another to make it 7-0.

Eddie Savoie added to the WT lead in the third with a two-run double down the right field line with two outs followed by a Ryan Johnson RBI single thru the left side to extend the lead to 10-0. The Buffs scored in their fourth straight inning in the home half of the fourth as Paul Wittmann singled to left to score Clay Artho followed by a Savoie RBI base hit to extend the lead to 12-0. WT wasn't done yet as Artho drove home Landon Gaber in his first colleague at-bat followed by a Kix Ferrel RBI groundout to make it 14-0.
