Long Ball Sends the #2 Lady Buffs Home with a 74-67 LSC Victory

CANYON, Texas – The #2 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M connected 17 times from behind the arc on Saturday afternoon as they outlasted the Texas A&M International Dustdevils, 74-67 in Lone Star Conference action at The KCB in Laredo, Texas.
 
Azia Himeur led the Lady Buff offense as the sophomore from Albuquerque went 8-of-16 from the floor including 6-of-13 from behind the arc for a game-high 22 points to go along with two rebounds, one assist and three steals. Lauren Taylor finished the game with 18 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists in her 30 minutes of action.
 
The Lady Buffs finished the afternoon going 24-of-52 (46.2%) from the floor including 17-of-30 (56.7%) from behind the arc and 9-of-12 (75%) from the free throw line to go along with 31 rebounds (eight offensive, 23 defensive), 18 assists, 26 turnovers, five blocks and 12 steals. It is just the fourth time since 2000 that the Lady Buffs have connected atleast 15 times from deep and it is just two shy of the LSC single-game record.
 
Emily Swiercz led the way offensively for the Dustdevils as the junior guard went 4-of-8 from the field including 2-of-5 from deep and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line for a team-high 16 points to go along with one rebound and four steals. TAMIU finished the game going 22-of-51 (43.1%) from the floor including 4-of-13 (30.8%) from deep and 19-of-26 (73.1%) from the free throw line with 28 rebounds (six offensive, 22 defensive), 15 assists, 21 turnovers, two blocks and 12 steals.
 
The Lady Buffs return to action on Wednesday morning as they host the Eagles of Northern New Mexico in an exhibition contest at the First United Bank Center with tipoff set for 10:30 a.m. during Community Day in Canyon.
