#3 Lady Buffs Open LSC Action with a 79-69 Win Over UAFS

CANYON, Texas – The #3 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M opened Lone Star Conference action with a victory on Thursday night as they outlasted the UAFS Lions, 79-69 in front of almost 500 fans at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.
 
Lauren Taylor led the way for the Lady Buffs as the junior from Collierville, Tennessee went 5-of-10 from the floor including 1-of-2 from deep and 4-of-6 from the free throw line for a game-high 15 points to go along with four rebounds, one assist and one steal. Hollie Stalder continued her hot start to the season as the freshman went 5-of-10 from the floor for 12 points while Karley Motschenbacher reached double-figures for the 11th straight contest with 11 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double.
 
The Lady Buffs finished the game going 27-of-68 (39.7%) from the floor including 6-of-22 (27.3%) from behind the arc and 19-of-27 (70.4%) from the free throw line to go along with 38 rebounds (13 offensive, 25 defensive), eight assists, nine turnovers, four blocks and six steals.
 
UAFS was led by Nya Stewart as the sophomore from Memphis went 2-of-9 from the floor including a perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe with 13 points to go along with two rebounds and three assists. The Lions went 26-of-62 (41.9%) from the floor including 6-of-16 (37.5%) from deep and 11-of-13 (84.6%) from the free throw line to go along with 40 rebounds (nine offensive, 31 defensive), 10 assists, 19 turnovers, one block and one steal.
 
The Lady Buffs finish off their homestand on Saturday afternoon as they welcome the Eagles of Oklahoma Christian to the First United Bank Center with tipoff set for 1 p.m. in Canyon. OC suffered an 88-61 loss at Lubbock Christian on Thursday night to fall to 0-4 (0-1 LSC).
